Price Check, 629 No Dash
Local shop has a 629 no dash with 8 3/8" barrel in about 80-85% condition, and has probably had a trigger job. Pachmyer grips, no box. They are asking $699 plus tax. Fair price? If not, what would a fair price be?

They didn't make many of those but the condition sounds a little "iffy". I would rather spend spend 200 more for a clean one with the goodies unless your looking for a shooter and not concerned about collectability.

Sounds like low condition to me too. You got to really rough up a 629 to get it down to 85 percent. How bout a picture?

That sounds high to me as I sold my 8 3/8 and 4 inch 629 no dash earlier this year that were in mint condition with the presentation case an goodies in the 4 inch barrel's case and just the revolver in the 8 3/8 inch barrels case. I got really good dollars for them but they were mint. The 8 3/8 sold for $925 but it would have got no where near that in the condition you describe.

Exactly what I was wondering. Broken parts, or dragged behind a vehicle I guess?

629 no dash
FWIW Last May I was able to buy, at a lgs, a 95% 629 nd in 2.5" for $750 after I sold the box & tools. The 8 3/8" length brings less than the shorter barrel lengths.

Doesn't look that bad to me. Certainly not drug behind a truck bad!
In these disturbed times, any shootable N-Frame will sell for 500+.
Cosmetics aside, I'd be looking for endshake, B/C gap and forcing cone condition.
My no-dash 629 was about the same cosmetically and cleaned up OK:
If it checks out functionally and you can get it for 625, you would be doing OK, IMHO.

End shake had a bit (1/8" or less) left and right but none fore and aft. Forgot to check the forcing cone.

That looks to be in pretty good condition, could stand some cleaning. It looks like it has been shot with lead bullets. More important that cosmetics to me is the timing, tight lock up, endshake, no barrel bulges, b/c gap, how the action feels to me. Grips to the trash and something better to put on it. If everything checks out, it should be a fine shooter. You will probably be able to negotiate a better price.

Looks o.k. to me. Get a tube of Flitz and an old t-shirt and shine her up! Those Pachs are fine for shootin',but get a set of factory wood grips for show!
