Default 27-2 Questions- Significance of box????

Hello fellow smithophiles. I am puzzled once again. I picked up a gorgeous 27-2, looks unfired , but in a very strange box. It doesnt have the usual markings or labels. I am wondering if this was the type of box that smith used if the gun shipped in a wood pres case and the serialized box was on the outercarton. And when the shipped the gun, the gun was in the blue cardboard box shown and the presentation case was with it. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Also, when you see the last picture and the cylinder shows 3 chamber fired and 3 not, is this truly unfired or can a pistol be cleaned to appear that way???

Thank you

Correct on the box, and if it appears unfired since leaving the factory I would guess those are the original firing marks. Any built-up residue on the frame above the forcing cone? That is difficult to get clean after any firing.

You are correct.. When shipped, the serial number label was on the outer box.. inside was the gun..in the plain blue box.. the presentation case, shrink wrapped in plastic, and a cardboard spacer.. I Believe the tools and paperwork were packed in the plain blue box..

As for the three dirty cylinder holes.. as far a I know that was the factory test fire.. by all accounts and appearances, the gun has only been factory fired..

As Mr. Jinks would say...

I hope this helps

Very nice. Congrats.

I have a 6" nickel 29-2 that came with the wood presentation box, small cardboard box, and a big outer box that holds everything. The S&W label is on the larger outer box.

Thumbs up Looks good

I have a 629 no dash still in it's original shipping box with the serial number on the outside of the carton. Inside is the presentation case on the bottom, and on top the revolver in a plain blue box and the tool kit in a cardboard sleeve beside the revolver.

I wonder why my model 64-2 2" has one of those stickers on the box? The box also has the normal sticker on the other side with all the info......

I should also add that the normal sticker is on the opposite side of the box from all my other boxes.

That is the Product Code label that they used from 1980 through 1982. In 1983 they combined the two labels into one.

I am not sure why the box doesn't have the standard markings or what happened to the serial number label, these usually fell of first, but the ending 6 means it was shipped without a Presentation Case.

Attached is a piece from the Mar, 1982 price list.

Default Box Question

Hello Haris
I think my pictures of my mod 57 41 magnum would be like your gun came. I would like to know what year Smith & Wesson went to this style of packing their guns if anyone out there knows. I think this 41 magnum was a 79 model so I am thinking late 70"s
Thanks
Harold

Haris
The presentation box is shrunk wrapped in the bottom of the box.

Is that other typed label anywhere on that or anywhere else?
Looks like it was there (above the other) but fell off, like a lot of them.

Looks like that one would have had 0570026031 on it.

S&W used to test fire every other chamber in 6 shot revolvers. It was easy to see on nickel or stainless revolvers.
