Is this stuff worth buying? I store all my wheel guns in padded gun rugs, will this stuff offer any additional protection?

If not, anything else I should add in there to help?

Thanks

I like to use it on a cookie sheet in the oven under cookies. Sometimes I wrap homemade baguettes with it and tie it up with twine.

Can't think of why it would be useful in a gun safe.

Yup. I thought this was gonna be a cooking thread.

Won't be wrapping any of my guns in it though.

Maybe the OP is referring to the standard S&W VPI paper, and not the cooking type of parchment paper?

I was always told to keep my guns unwrapped (uncased) to allow air to circulate in the safe with a "golden rod" plugged in.

WOW didn't know you could put paper in the oven? It wont catch fire???

I just had a midnite snack of 3 slices of pizza heated up on some parchment paper - don't know why it would be required for a gun!?

It's good up to about 400 degrees (I think, too lazy to go downstairs and get it out of the cabinet to check). Great stuff, nothing sticks to it - works like wax paper does for cold stuff. I believe it is coated with silicone - similar to the silicone bakeware you can buy. I know it really makes cleanup easy - I haven't washed a cookie sheet for ages - just throw the paper away and put the sheet back in the cabinet.

Geeze, talking about hi-jacking a thread.

I am so sorry. Seriously. :o

To be perfectly honest, It didn't "click" with me that the OP was possibly referring to the rust-inhibitive-impregnated paper which Smith & Wesson uses to wrap their revolvers, in the box.

Yes, it's good stuff! I use the silicone-treated gun socks, instead.

A lot of guns have been damaged by being stored in cases of various types. They trap moisture and cause rust.

To best preserve your guns, keep them uncovered and uncased.

Or in a gun sock that allows the gun to breathe to avoid rusting. Available from Midway, Brownells, and many others.

I just had a new s&w m29-10 have one little pitted spot why I'm not sure if I over looked it when I purchased it used unshot. Luckily it wasn't that bad and some careful restoring it with cold bluing I saved it. I keep it in its orginal s&w blue case in the safe. But the parchment paper was worn.

I had some Russian parchment paper sitting here. I oiled up the guns and wrapped them in New gun parchment paper while they are dripping wet with oil. Back in the s&w blue cases they went.

I never in 40 years ever had a gun rust on me. I need to inspect used guns closer from now on.

The s&w m29-10 w/ 6 1/2" barrel in blue was nib, still unshot with the papers, blue plastic case and a new presentation case, in the used case for $699. I bought a new s&w at a used price. The gun is awesome.

I just packed all my s&w handguns dripping wet with new Russian parchment paper. I hope this works. I do have some handgun sized open on one side plastic bags I may wrap them in too besides the parchment paper for long term storage. Maybe cosmoline would be the stuff to use.

On one of my jobs we had a waxed type of parchment paper for shipping New machine parts. I wonder if that can be found.

Love the gun socks. After I slip them in, just the act of handling the sock with the gun inside removes the last finger print oil on it and they stay minty fresh. And the cost is reasonable.

Will the gun socks hurt the nickel finish?

I have a few sitting here and a box of them somewhere. I had brain fade that I had them.

PARCHMENT PAPER

For guns NO. +1 on the no gun rugs or leather sheaths, for guns or knives. I DO use parchment paper greased, wrapped & taped around a knife blade (an inner sheath) to long term store knives in or out of their sheath, it prevents any rust/pitting & keeps em sharp.

clean them…..wax them……put them in a VCI bag…….supposed to be good for 5 years……I've only used them for a couple, but have had excellent results……..was told the government uses them for weapon storage as well. sizes for rifles and handguns……. you can get one to cover a motorcycle or car.

Semper Fi!
