Default Yoke Screw Question on 66-1

I picked a used 4" 66-1 this week end for a fair price. After I cleaned it up I noticed the yoke screw was not tight. After lightly tightening it, the yoke noticeably drags with resistance. Thinking the previous owner may have mixed up the two round head screws I switched them to see if it would fit. Same result. Okay now I'm thinking it may have had a new one installed at some point without properly being fitted.

I marked the original screw with black marks-a-lot and re-installed it lightly to see where it drags. Slight drag mark is on yoke button, but not gouged.

What is the proper procedure for installing old style yoke screw?

I should have known when I checked the strain screw and it was backed out a full turn that somebody simply could not keep their fingers out of it.

TIA

I would drag it across a file a few times and check it. Keep doing that until it fits correctly.

A slight bevel can't hurt. It can keep a sharp edge from catching on the yoke and scarring it.

I do the same, just with a 600 grit stone, break the corner. Agree with jsfricks, drag it across a fine tooth file a few times then try it. Repeat until fits properly, just snug.

Wrapped a piece of 600 grit emery cloth around a popsicle stick and gave it a few light strokes around the circumference and it opens easily with no back and forth movement of the yoke.

Thanks for the help.
