Default My Pawn Shop Rescue

I picked this 28-2 after seeing it in the case for a couple three weeks at the pawn shop where I do my transfers.

It looks bad but locks up tight. It looks like more neglect than anything else. The rear sight slider is broken but I have one on order from S&W.

Default Wow

That bad boy has been carried a million miles. But I'll bet it shoots great. Shoot and enjoy. JA

If the price was right I'd have no problem buying that and sending it to S&W for a proper reblue and mechanical refurbish.

If the mechanics are already good (and the price was right), I'd shoot it as-is.

Nice find.

Mebbe a lot of miles under the seat or in the glove box of a pickup.. It'll still put a lot of whup *** on some of the new ones.

Now that is a diamond in the rough. You have a lot of options open for that bad boy. If you leave it like is is, try to find a holster and belt that would match the wear and tear. How does the bore look btw?

Also a great candidate for a Bowen conversion.

I would spend as little as possible to get it shooting straight again and then turn it into my favorite bullet hose.

Thanks, everyone!!!
I was a little concerned when I first looked at the bore - it was dirty and a little dark. The weapon had old powder residue all over and it seemed that, maybe, probably, it had never been cleaned! I'm happy to report that the bore is bright, sharp and shiny and the crown is perfect!

I think I'm just going fix the rear sight and leave it alone. I collect military surplus firearms, so I'm OK with the wear.

I'd have no problem putting a new sight blade on it and enjoy it as is myself.

If I found a m28 like that, I'd have it rechambered for 38 super and get some moons. I've been wanting to do this for a while...

It has, no doubt, earned every bit of that character. I applaud your decision to fix the sight, and then keep it as is. I think it looks great.

I will probably be tarred and feathered for saying this.if it shot good, I would take it down to the tacticool shop, have it cerakoted black, and shoot it until the grips fell off.

Have you ran the serial number? I'd be interested in knowing when it was manufactured.

It sure looks like it spent a large part of its life in a police holster. Many old school cops took notoriously poor care of their sidearms and the looks of this one shows all the signs. Carried a lot, but not shot very much. It's a real shame that it can't tell us its story.
