Default Opinions on Altamont grips for my Model 36?

I have Pachmayrs on it now and they are great in the hand, but I just love the look of wood grips.

I came across these, and they look like the best of both worlds. They look like they don't cover the backstrap like the Pachmayrs do, but that's okay.

Opinions on them? Looking to see if they're quality more than anything. Also, the gun is concealed carry so do they take up much space, more than the Pachmayrs? I just realized they have smooth and checkered wood inserts, not sure which I'd rather more though.

I have never seen that type before but I realky like them. I have several pairs of altamonts and those dont look like any of them especially the large S&W logo in the rubber. Are you sure they are made by altamonte?

Personally, I don't care for those. But, I have some Altamont grips for two N Frames and I like them a lot. Very nice, well made, good fit, and a good value for the money.

I have a few pair of Altamont grips and I am very pleased with them, but they are all wood. If that black portion of those grips is soft rubber, be aware soft rubber will hang up and print on most material, and in my mind is not satisfactory for a CCW handgun.

Yeah, those pictures are from their website on the ordering page.

I already have rubber Pachmayrs and I conceal carry it, doesn't print at all.

I should add that I love the look so on opinions I don't mean aesthetically, I mean function wise in the hand and sizing and quality.

Old school diamond Magnas are my favorite but on a post 1982 Herrets smooth presentations with medallions are very nice.

For CCW I prefer CT laser grips,
After all nothing says : " I see you lurking in my fenced backyard at 3am " better than a red dot on the chest....
racking a round into the 12 gauge pump is probably a close second .

I'd love laser grips, but I can't justify the cost currently.

Besides all the nice things about Altamont's fit and appearance, the feature I like best is the ease of modifying the shape of their regular "wood" grips.

The composite wood laminate they use is easy to sand. Once you have the shape you want, the original luster is easily restored by polishing.

Pictured here is an Altamont "combat" grip. It was sanded to provide a generous clearance for an old Dade speed loader and subsequently polished with the little buffing wheel and rouge that came with my Dremel tool. My pictures are not wonderful, but the grips look great in person.

Best of all, they now really work well with my older speed loaders.

The plastic/rubber portions of the grip you pictured probably will not lend themselves to easy modification.
