You ought to send this thread to Saxon Pig. His heart might blow. This is outstanding and PROPS to Roy for going up and above on this for you.
50 bucks well spent. Hell worth more than that
Sweet Revolver Dan.

Unfortunately not....a very gracious forum member answered my want to buy ad. I am still trying to search our department records to establish who it was issued to. The hunt continues.

Why should my heart (or any other organ for that matter) blow?
I don't see much point in lettering this gun as it seems pretty obvious where it went. But the owner seems pleased and that's all that matters. I don't really care how other folks spend their money. I am only concerned with where mine goes.

The point was the gun was issued to the Troopers and Inspectors in my agency in the 80s. I take pride in my work and wanted to document the history for myself and the agency. It is our 75th anniversary this year and this revolver (along with my issued m28) are making a photographic appearance in a commemorative book.
Obviously it doesn't take a rocket scientist to assume where it shipped. Also wanted to confirm it came from the factory with the side plate engraved.
It's pretty clear it's hard for some to look past the obvious, sorry you couldn't be as excited about your letter and money spent as I was......

You found out that there was 432 shipped. That's pretty cool.
I like the logo on the side. It's not gaudy like some.

For the kind of research you are doing and the historical information you are gathering, I can't imagine a much better factory letter than the one you got, especially with the order data thrown in. I'd say you pretty much hit the jackpot. Now if your department records do reveal the officer to whom it was originally issued and you can get any info and/or a picture of him (preferably holding or wearing that gun) it would be a super addition to your commemorative book. Congrats and keep digging; it seems like you are on a roll!

Congratulations a receiving a great factory letter and supporting documents on your Model 66. Mr. Jinks went above and beyond in providing the supporting documents and is to be commended for it. It further shows what a valuable service he is providing to S&W collectors.

Sounds to me that getting the factory letter confirming what you have is almost as much fun as getting the gun itself. Nice looking gun, good letter, great overall package. Enjoy!
