price check on 28-2
I need some help on pricing a 28-2. The gun is a S-302xxx and is in 95% ++ condition. All original. It has a very slight cyl. ring. What would be a fair price for this. Any help out there?
Thanks
John

A lot depends on where you are....I've seen similar guns priced close to 700 around here (which to me seems a bit ridiculous, but there it is) In Hermiston, I'd guess they would come at less of a premium. If I saw it for around 500 I wouldn't hesitate.

Come on Snoop. It's either a 4" or a 6".

The 6 inch sells for less than the 4 inch barrel 28-2 so I would put the price between $550 and $600. It is an N frame and it's mechanically the same revolver as the Model 27-2 without the high luster blue and the checkered steel top strap.

The 28s are on the rise. I would say $600-$700...and I would lean toward $600 for a 6". $1000 is absolutely crazy by all accounts I've seen. However with that being said I did see a NIB 6" sell on an auction site for $1100. That was only once and the seller seems to bring BIG dollars on all his auctions.

Nice "S" serial numbers in 4" are going north of $800 with no box etc from what I can see. Nutz? It maybe but you got to ask your self when you sill see one again at whatever the asking price is today. Local gun shop has what I think of as 70%guns for $800. Would I sell any of mine right now for what I know I can get for them? No as this is the important part... I can't replace them for what I could sell them for... If you find a bargain priced decent 28 buy it! Kyle

A couple of places have the 28s for over a $1000 with box and unused . And that is for 6 inch . Blued . If it had been for a real 28 factory nickel - well it wouldn't be there today .

I recently saw a couple of 6" 28-2s sell for $500 a piece. They were in 95% condition IMO. I almost bought one of them. I should have...

One of my LGS has most of the used s&w revolvers between $750 to $1,000. Another lgs has a m28 6" hp at $1,000. Look at GB or Auctions the prices are up there too.
Guys the old days are gone somewhat. There are deals but no steals like there once was. I know the feeling I been there many times.
Once the cost goes so high I might as well buy new.

The m28 prices on GB are NOT around $1,000! I watch them daily looking for 4 screws and 5 screws! Search the completed auctions.....I haven't done it specifically but I would guess the average is $550-$700 for a -2. The high condition 4 screws will bring $700+ along with the 5 screws. That being said I bought a 6" 5 screw 3 weeks ago for $525 shipped on GB! Good prices are out there. If you think the going rate on a -2 is $1000++. I'll sell you several for that price!
