Does S&W Acknowledge Receipt of a Gun?
This has nothing specifically to do with pinned barrel revolvers, but as the gun in question was one I figured I'd post it here.
I recently sent my Model 25-5 back to S&W for some work, using the FedEx shipping label they provided. I was able to track the shipment and confirm that it was delivered to them a few days ago. My question is . . . will I at some point get something from them confirming that they have the gun, or will there be no communication until they actually start (or finish) the work, which I expect to be several months or more?

I have had to send back a couple of guns, and there was no communication at all. They received it and 3 weeks later Fed Ex delivered it to my door.

My experience has been you have to call them if you want any info.

Thanks for the replies. I've printed out and filed all the correspondence and the FedEx tracking report showing delivery, so I guess I'll sit tight for a while and maybe shoot them an email eventually to check on progress, or lack thereof.

As its non-warranty work be prepared to wait.
I sent in a 29-2 LAST May.
Bad decision in a panic time.
They finally got around to doing the repair quote last week.
Called numerous times for status. Always waiting.
They told me once that they had about 20K guns in for work with 100s more arriving every day.
Warranty turn-around is very quick, OTOH.

I also sent to S&W a model 19-3 for non-warranty work with the Fed Ex/S&W label this month. The gentleman I spoke with concerning the return stated in two months or so I would receive a statement of the cost of repair. Upon payment I should receive my Smith six to eight months later.

I sent them a 629 Classic to rebarrel as a Mtn Gun about 10 years ago, and they acknowledged that they lost it in house. I had to call to find that out, but they acknowledged that they had it. Somewhere.

Call if you want a status. Otherwise the next news is the delivery guy at the door.
