Thumbs up help to identify my s&w please?

Hi all, I am a new collector living in the uk and have aquired the following,
S&W 357 magnum, steel finnish.
4 inch barrel
model 65-2
serial number 15710

I would be grateful if you gentlemen could help me find out a bit more about this fine example, when it was made and possibly where it was first retailed.
it has a broken firing pin, but other than that it is perfect. I would like to source a new pin for it just to have it perfect.
many thanks for having such an interesting and informative forum. Kind regards, Jim/

The 65-2 was made from roughly 1977 until 1982. I'm not clear on the serial # though as it should read xxKxxxx or xxxKxxx. As for where it was initially shipped only S&W can tell you that. Sorry this isn't much info.

What you posted is likely an assembly number. The serial will be on the butt.

Any gunsmith should be able to replace the firing pin for you. But I wonder how it was broken?

thanks for the quick reply, it all helps. sorry my info on the serial number is not that clear on the gun, it could be 15410 but between 154 and 410 appears to be a very faded or poorly stamped mark that I cannot make out. the number 7 is then stamped OVER the number 4, I cannot see any letter K or otherwise on her. But even just learning that it is a 'k' frame will help me tto buy the correct holster for my display of the gun.
again, many thanks for the quick reply, it's much appreciated.

thanks for the info, I will have to take off the grips to find the number. here in the uk, the English government will only allow the police and other criminals to possess guns of any kind, the pin was deliberatly broken to 'deactivate' the gun.

Please look on the bottom of the grip frame for the serial number; if it has oversized stocks you may need to remove them to see it. Most likely a series of digits with a D in it, or three letters and four digits.
