I like square butts, I cannot lie
I went on a buying binge lately to make sure none of the money from my NightGuard sale went towards stupid things like "life". Also, my local shop is full of horrible enablers (the priciest of this lot was $330). My first purchase was this Model 36 no-dash.
It's a little silly, seeing as how I sold my old square butt 36 for lack of grip options, but hey whatever.
Next is this: My Model 18
It's externally rough as you can see, but not horrible. Also any .22 K frame in this price range I can't turn down.
Next up is this Model 15-3. Looks to be an old police gun from the holster wear.
Looks like somebody cut down the target grips to take speedloaders (ugly but man the HKS10s are actually useful now)
The former owner also used some white/silver paint on the top of the front sight, which oddly really improves the sight picture, moreso even than painting the whole rib.

I understand perfectly. I personally hate to waste perfectly good money on useless things like bills and food. In fact, I just put some money down on another model 15 today. This one, unlike the one I posted in the "The Worst M15" thread I started a few days ago, is in brand new condition.
I too will buy any .22 K frame Smith if it is reasonably priced. Heck, it seems that I will buy nearly any S&W if I have the funds.

I think you've done well. And the 18 is a gem in any condition!

The white/silver paint on the front sight of the model 15 is a common ocurance. A large number of law enforement officers used to paint their sights so they could see them better in low light situations. I used to paint mine with liquid paper. Liquid paper was the right shade of white and was cheap. I would paint the whole sight and could se it in all but total darkness.

Thanks for the kind words guys! Only issue I had was that those 80s blocky magnas are just horrible.
That's better.
Also, any of you looking for .22 snapcaps need only look as far as your local hardware store. I'm sure most of you are aware of this, but I'd pass it on anyways

I've had previous sights done up like that, but honestly the tip top being highlighted presents me with a much more agreeable picture for whatever reason.

I prefer sqaure butts on most of my S&Ws. I can tolerate a round on a snubbie J or K, but absolutely detest the whole idea of a round butt N-frame. Thank goodness they make round to square grips.

I hate those enablers at the gun store, like friendly knowledgeable people that make me feel bad by telling them no. Bring back that 19 year old kid that plays too many video games and loves black plastic to show me that marlin 30-30, not the old grey friendly beer gut man who can tell me stories about his old 30-30...

I'm a butt man,.
I own one RB Smith. A 2.5"66.
The rest are square butts.
Mainly because those are the ones I've found for sale at a price I could afford.
The fact that I like the way they look and feel is just a happy coincidence.

Also a matter of taste, as in other things we discuss around this campfire. Personally. I think a square butt J-frame is kind of like a design error. Or size 13 shoes on a short guy - like me! Why would you ruin a concealable handgun by enlarging the butt?
YMMV.

Personal Taste
Prior to our transition to autoloaders, my office went to K-frames after first authorizing Model 36s and Colt Dick Specials. Got me issued a 3" K-frame round butt, which concealed more easily under a sport jacket than a square butt.

Championing a round-butt J-frame against a square-butt J-frame sounds too much like picking fly scat out of pepper. Neither are hard to conceal, Pee-Wee Herman excepted.

I have K's, L's & N's. Of them only 1 is a round butt. is a 625 JM. It sports Altamont round to square conversion rosewood targets. All of my square butts wear targets too. My hands are not that big, but they just feel right. Bob

[Sir Six-a-Lot]
I like square butts and I can not lie
You other brothers can't deny
That when you see an S.B. Smith & Wesson
You know you just gotta ask that question
You come undone, you wanna see that gun
'Cause you see that finish was buffed
That deep factory blue is glaring
I'm hooked and I can't stop staring
Oh baby, I wanna get with you
And take your picture
My homeboys tend to be so corny
But your square butt don't mean you're hoary
