Default Model 36 date & value please...

I love j-frames dearly, even more so than my Glocks. I've offered a G30 .45cal for a S&W Model 36 with an additional $100 coming my way. I'm not really concerned about the value, but it would be nice to know. I'm much more interested in the production year. It's a no dash 36 and the serial number is: 696142. I'll have several more questions about this little revolver this afternoon after I take ownership of it... but it appears to be in pretty good condition.

Thanks in advance guys!

J frame s/n production shows this:
1962 = starts at 295000
1969 = ends at 786544.
Taking the total production run and dividing by the years, which is not an exact science, I would say 696142 was made in 1968.

Condition is everything when determining value. A "J" in excellent condition should be around $400.00 to $450.00 in the Atlanta area.

Love the "J" myself. A few pics of your new addition sure would be nice and better able to determine a dollar value.

My 36 (1981) was $389 shipped. Certainly not pristine. Looks good and shoots as good as I can run it. (will require more practice) I wouldn't mind having a 3" square butt to go with it. Enjoy your new 36! Bob
