Default Smith&wesson .38 special ctg mod. 36-1

I have this gun that was passed down from my grandfather its the s&w mod 36-1 with the 3in barrell a wood handle and the serial number is 55j59 but when i search the serial number i can't seem to find it i want to know the original date of the gun

It would likely be from 1971 during the initial '71-'72 "floating J" serial number series. The 36-1 is a great revolver and being from your grandfather makes it very special.

According to my mom my grandfather had it in the late 60's early 70's
