64-2 Shoots To Left
The lightly used 64-2 I picked up recently shoots about 3.5" left at 50'. I've tried factory and reload ammo with same results. Off hand or bench rest is the same. Elevation is very good but that far left thing is driving me crazy. I'm a fairly good shooter and have other fixed sight snubbies (yes, I'm "bi"; I do S&W and Colt) that hit dead on.
I also have to admit this is my first all stainless revolver. My 629 has adjustable sights and the rear sight is black with the front sight having the orange ramp. The stainless on stainless of the 64-2 makes for slightly more difficult target acquisition but the bench rest takes that out of the equation for now.
Yes, I can highlight the front sight with orange and the rear sight cut with black but... I'm not sure that will help POI.
So, is there a mechanical way to bring POI to the right?

The factory used a babbit bar to whack the frame to move POI/POA of fixed sight revolvers.

You can machine the rear trench to be slightly wider toward the right, shave a little of the right side of the front sight off, or train yourself to align the front sight slightly right with that particular revolver.

It's just a bit more complicated than this, but in essence this is correct! This is for someone who understands the process, not the average kitchen table mechanic.
DO NOT try messing with sights by cutting them. This is often suggested, buy I defy anyone proposing this as a method the post pictures of a revolver where this was done, where it is not obviously a "Bubba" job!

Try putting your finger farther through the trigger guard.

I was definitely NOT suggesting kitchen table sight shaving; that's a trip to a qualified gunsmith/machinist...

Barrel may be canted slightly to the right....if so, it can be corrected.

try some different grips?? if that doesn't work, change your grip, position of your finger on the trigger face, if all else fails send it back to S&W? There are lots of K frame grips in the world, magna's through combat targets, keep trying till you find the right pair. billy

I have a 2" 10-7 that I had the same problem with. I fixed it by
opening the rear sight notch up by milling one side of the notch very
carefully with a small end mill. Worked like a charm. It's not a major
job but must be done by someone who knows what they're doing.

I would send it back to S&W and have the barrel PROPERLY installed. They'll have to cut it back a bit and re-thread but it's pretty standard. I sent back a 629 that was shooting 10" to the left...2 trips back to S&W, and a very heated complaint call and it shoots perfect now.

So far there are some very good suggestions. One thing that's not posted and that I'd try before going other routes is having somebody else shoot the gun to see what their results are. If their POI is similar to yours, it's more than likely an issue with the gun.

My guess is that the barrel is canted slightly. But, do have someone else shoot it to confirm that it shoots left.

I agree with MJFLORES.
While shipping your revolver to S&W will be costly and possibly time consuming... the end results should be exactly what you'd hope to achieve without the risk of a "Bubba'd up" gunsmith job.

I am not trying to be critical, but did you have anybody else get the same results while shooting this gun? Bob

Sold it to a guy who wants to "fiddle" with it. We're both happy. I kept the awesome Altamont grips and I'm in search of a 66 with 2" barrel to put those grips on.
