Default Fixed Sight 44 Magnum?

The model 58 in this previous post: smith-wessonforum.com/s-w.../415708-model-58-price-check.html sold at auction yesterday. Upon inspection, the cylinder has been reamed, the muzzle re-crowned (barrel did not appear shortened), the barrel reamed and re-rifled, and the gun refinished. I presume it is now a 44 magnum, but is still factory marked as a 41. I did not have a caliper to measure or a 44 cartridge to check (would have asked auction house staff to test). Represented by the auction house as a 41 magnum, sold for $625. I presume (hope) 44M's could be safely fired in it.

Without knowing who did the conversion, I sure would not assume too much.

Seems like the buyer could demand a full refund if he can prove it is not as represented. It could well be an honest mistake by the auction house. If they have any type of integrity they will make a full refund.

That is exactly what I intend to do if I can find a model 58 at a reasonable price.
If the owner wants to get rid of it let me know.
