Model 19 or Model 67 ?
A local gun store has a pair of S&W revolvers for sale.
One is a Model 19-3, Blue, 357 mag, P&R , 4" bar., target grips, box, paperwork and in 98% condition.
The other is a Model 67-3, SS, 38 special, P&R, 4" bar., Original grips and a set of target grips, box, paperwork and in 98% condition.
Both are in the $500 range. Which would be the most desirable from a collector standpoint and what would be the approx. value for each one. Thanks

I'd grab the 19-3 first but for the condition and price stated I'd probably take them both. As described they both sound like bargains. Of course I'd be looking for my volume discount and try to get a little better price but $1000 OTD for both would be very appealing to me. Good Luck.

19-3 without a doubt. really nice guns , plus you can shoot both .38 and .357 you have that choice.
$500.00 seems like a good price also.

I would if only could get one would opt for the 19.
You did say from a collectors view and unless you’re going to make your purchase/s a safe queen and instead shoot them, again I say 19. That way you can shoot both 38 and the bigger boomer!

I do not own a K frame .357 revolver. Am in to L's & N. Do have a 67 no dash. Great gun. Forgive my rambling. If you can buy only 1, and condition is right, by all means, the 19! Bob

The next guy to see the 19-3 will probably buy it, so scoot back to the store and buy it at that price.

From your description -- 98% guns with correct boxes in the $500 range -- if you can, buy both, those are exceptional deals.
Again, if the description is accurate.
You'll see a return on investment the moment you buy them...
But, if it has to be one, no doubt the more collectible is the 19.

With the price and condition as you say, I would take out a loan if I had to in order to buy both of them. In this day and market, that is a screaming deal.

Buy both if you can. Cannot loose with those. My first purchase was a 67 wish I had gotten a 66. Just tell your wife you have had them for years, they were just in the back of the closet with those shoe boxes somebody had left there.

Another vote for the 19, not because it's that much better as a shooter but because it's the better buy (by a small but noticeable amount.) JMHO, of course.

Another for the 19.
No S&W collection is complete without a model 19.

.38's were never recessed. Just pinned. I own a 67 now. A -1 model. Love it to death. Does nearly everything a 66 does, except fire the occasional .357 just for giggles.
I've owned several 66's, 2 of them pinned and recessed. I got a screaming deal on a 19-2 3 years ago. 4" barrel and in perfect condition. Diamond Target grips numbered to gun. No box or papers. $260 out the door!
But it was so pretty I only shot it once. Was afraid of holstering it or shooting it more to put signs of use on it. I sold it for nearly 3 times what I paid for it. I do miss it though.
So I'd buy them both. Definitly keep the 67 and maybe sell the 19 to recoup most of your expense. End up with the 67 for 200 bucks.
I got lucky on my 67-1 6 month ago on gun broker. Starting bid of 229. Buy it now of $239. I stumbled on the listing 10 minutes after it was posted and hit the buy it now. No box or paperwork, and Pachmayrs (that I prefer anyway). But I was super happy with the deal.
Those extra target grips with the 67 are worth about 100 bucks if not more, if they're in good shape. Something to think about. But I'd find a way to get both. If nothing else but to make some money on the 19 when I sold it. With that and the extra 67 trips you could almost get that 67 for free.

You should buy the 19-3. You will not be disappointed. This is a personal opinion of course.

The 19-3 is worth $300 more around here. Plus, everyone needs a 4" 19 - it's the perfect all-around revolver, IMO.

Around here a Model 19, in better than average condition with the box and papers, is a $750.00+ (depending on actual condition) gun. Beaters go for $500.00. The 67 in the box...would be pushing $600.00 really hard.
Good luck getting both. I'd try to do that myself.

I'd go for the Model 19, whether for collector value or as a working gun. It's a .357 Magnum, making it the more versatile of the two choices. I've got a couple of 19s, one a 2.5-incher and the other a 6-incher, which was the first magnum handgun I ever bought, and that's been a veeeeeery long time ago.
The Model 19 four-inch was Bill Jordan's chosen piece, and that in itself makes it something special.
