Default New & unknown to me....M-18-3

Just brought the 18-3 home from an estate sale, the 29 has been here a couple weeks.

The M-18-3, is 4", .22LR. Both these have super smooth really light trigger pulls. I suspect the previous owner did some kind of "work" in that area. One trigger has had the grooves removed & the surface polished.......kinda a crude job.

These guns came w/Pachmyer rubber grips on & a pr of S&W bigger wooden ones loose. The .22 serial seems to be 1K95335. That tells me it is a "K" frame????

I was finally able to shuffle the grips around until I got the original wooden ones back on the correct gun. Darn shame they didnt mark them!!!

And........the 18-3 is missing the rear site. I have an after market one off an early purchase 29-2, 8 3/8 gun. If the aftermarket fit the 29, will it also fit the 18???

These guns are easily 99% with no thinning. Unfortunately, he had holsters for both & the muzzle sides show that.

Other guns are a collectable condition M-70 Win. in .270, a new looking MAC 11 sub-machine gun, 9mm several mags & ammo for it; a Stevens 30-30 bolt action detach magazine rifle, must be from the '50s when that set up was more popular; a new Taurus copy of Wins. M-63 .22 auto loader and a '70s era Win. cheapy M-190 rifle. There is a .25 Astra auto soaking in a can of oil, I couldnt get the slide to move on it but it looks pretty good. Must be 500pounds of reloading trinkets; bullets, primers, empties, powder, 3 presses....a set of 100 or more small plastic drawers all seem to have something in. Many non factory boxes, many reloads of .38special & bullet casting set up & lotsa little bricks of lead......more than a few baggies of lead bullets....maybe I better up the wt designation 200more.

Don't be too disappointed in the 18. A little wear looks ok! Shoot it and love it!

S&W rear sights came in a couple different lengths and the spacing of the hole that you screw it down to the frame with has been relocated a couple times. You need to determine the vintage (age) of the 18-3, most likely 1971, and then find out which rear sight it needs. I do not know which one it is, hopefully someone will come along that does know what years they made these changes. And yes, it is a K Frame, and one of the most sought after S&W's for fun shooting. An essential item that has to be in every S&W collection.
