I think the most desired of the two would be the one that the owner wants the most. For me... it was the Model 63 no dash that I purchased back in the early 80's.

I really don't think there is a definitive answer to this question because so much depends on taste.
For example, I am a big fan of carbon steel, blued revolvers. I have very few nickel or stainless guns. So, for me, the Model 34 line of Kit Guns is preferable to the Model 63. Many prefer the stainless versions for utility reasons mostly (although some do have an aesthetic attraction to them also).
So I would have to say they are equally desirable, depending on who is buying. Both are fine tools!

If sales prices are related to popularity, the two are about equal. As Jack mentioned personal preference has a lot to do with it. You have made the wise decision, one of each .

For me, it is always the blue steel version over the stainless version of any model.

BTW, ALL 34s and 63 have recessed chambers and always will. It protects the priming compound in the case head of the rimfire cartridge.

I bought the model 34-1 new not long after I ended my active duty in 1975. It was carried often when I was in the woods using it to take a groundhog, rattlesnake, and a squirrel or two. It's a great little revolver but when I won the model 63 at an estate auction, the 34 became a safe queen. If you go by the number of rounds fired, the model 63 is easily my favorite S&W.

Talking New Mod 63

Bought a new Model 63 no dash last week. I have several blue 17's and predecessors and really like them. But when I saw the 63, it was so pretty, and felt so good. I paid too much, but I like it.

Thread drift ... I like the profile on a 4 inch square butt J frame, with that exposed extractor & those flat skinny hammers, almost as well as I like a 5 inch N frame!

Almost.

VR, when you determine which is the most popular, I would like to take the less popular one off your hands!

I would consider them about equal. I have both, but if I wanted to get another, it would be the Md 63 no dash. I got mine in 1979.

The 63 was my favorite along with my 19-4. I sent the 63 to my son in Oregon and now it's his favorite. I " kind of " hoped he didn't like it so I might get it back ! LOL

If you are selling, I'll take the one you don't want, or both.

Always a good move, if you can afford it. Congratulations!

Excellent decision! And you sure won't regret it. Now you can baby the 34 and have your 63 do the tougher stuff like hiking, fishing etc. I've been pretty amazed at how desirable the Kit Guns have become in general and in particular the 63s.

Own the 43 and the 34, so for me the desire goes to the 63, which is the one I don't own. That is how the symptoms effect me.

I pick the 34-1!

Mine has matching numbered grips and doesn't get shot much.

I have both, but I think the Model 43 (Alloy Frame) would be my vote (I do have one pre-43 from 1955).....

The 63.It's seen as the low maintenance trail walker.
