Hey guys,

I'm a Trooper down here and started awhile back on a mission to collect one marked and issued example of every duty weapon we've carried. I recently found a well used but tight marked M66 of which I've seen several surface online, but never got to in time.

I also just picked up today a marked 4506 which I knew we issued, but jD never come across or even seen pictures of one.

I know at one time before going to the 66 we carried a blued .357 which I believe was a m28 at least that is what moT sources say.
I'm hoping that someone on here may own one of these examples and could post some pictures. I've never seen one, so I don't even know if they were marked.

Although this ain't the technically correct section, if anyone has a marked 5906 I would also love to see photos of it as well.

Just wondering - do you have a Model 26-1, or don't you consider that an "issue" gun? Made 1988-1989.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

Can you post a photo of GSP marking. I am a GA native and also would like to find such a handgun, semi or revolver. Thanks.

Bob, I do not own a Commemorative 26-1. I definitely want to add one to the collection when I find one for a good price. I just didn't mention it in the original post because they are pretty well documented and known about. They also while definitely not common, show up more often than original marked duty weapons.

When I was a county deputy back in the early '70s, GSP carried 4" Model 28 on a very shiny (patent leather, maybe?) gunbelt that was very wide, maybe 4", across the back and sides, and tapered down in the front. I thought then, and still do, that it was a very attractive rig.

Where are you stationed? The troopers I knew were from Americus (Post 10?) and Thomaston (Post 26?).

Here is a picture that might interest you. I know one of the troopers who had the sign-guarding duty. An interesting time in Georgia.

How do you all like your Glock 37's? Had one but traded it off since .45 GAP ammo is very hard to get in the SW US. Otherwise I LOVED the gun & would have carried it on the job but we have 5 calibers approved so #6 was a no no.

You can google the photos you want. Here's the Model 28 you're looking for. The Model 28 is almost identical to the higher grade Model 27; except the 28's were more expediently manufactured with a rougher finish, more economical grips, and a lot less final polishing.

I own a custom-built, custom-tuned Model 27. (Austin Behlert did the work for me!) It's a very strong, nicely balanced revolver with well-figured rosewood grips on it.

Open Google (or, 'DuckDuckGo.com' which I prefer), type in the search term you're looking for, and then select, 'images'. That should give you what you're looking for.

Red level, I'm out of the Hartwell Post. We still wear the same 3 inch tapered belt. You're definitely right about Ludowici. It would have been very interesting to be a Trooper on those days.

PR24, I actually really liked the 45 GAP. I had my doubts since I came from a .40 s&w agency prior to GSP. The glock 39(baby glock) was surprisingly very fun to shoot compared to a model 27 in 40. We just switched to 9mm Glock 17 and 43s. The GAP round while good was really the wrongful solution to the problem of fitting a 45 caliber round into a 9mm/40 frame gun so I don't think it would have been sustainable even if we had wanted to keep it.

Arc Angel, I was asking for pictures specifically of GSP guns to show markings/ configurations. I guess I should have been more specific.

Thanks

I bought several G.S.P. 28s from J&G in the late 70s They were standard M-28 4in, with a capitol GSP stamped on the frame on the left side centered below the cylinder. Most had been reblued and all seemed to be in good shooting condition. Big bore conversions were very popular and I made several.
