Default Highway Patrolman 28-2 Find

Took home a sweet 4" Highway Patrolman this weekend found at a gun show. It's complete with box/tools. It's a late 60s 28-2, serial # S3075xx. Would've been nicer had it been a few years earlier with diamonds on the grips, but that's ok anyway, grips #. These have eluded me for awhile, unless I wanted a 6", or something that was rode hard and put away wet. Thought I'd share.

There was a fair number of vintage Smiths at this show. The issue was that too many were way overgraded and priced silly. Revolvers with little to no blue left on the ejector rod and worn/chipped grips are not 97-98% collectors.

Very nice find! One of the last S serial number Nframes. I wouldn't be too upset about not getting diamond magnas, it's best to get one that is original.

Congratulations on buying the 28-2 as it is mechanically the same gun as the more expensive model 27-2. The only difference is the dull blue and lack of checkered steel top strap. They cheapened his model up from the Model 27-2 to sell it for less to LEO's at the time and to get police contracts back when the police carried 357 Magnum revolvers.

Here's mine

What can I say, but you got the whole enchilada! Nice package! I have a lowly 6" from 1960. Even though I bought it used it was my 1st Smith revolver purchase. Enjoy that beauty! Bob
