Default Model 36 Chief's Special

I acquired a Model 36 this week. It is in decent condition with some wear and scratches. The grips look original. It is a 2" pinned barrel with a three screw plate. The revolver is in good mechanical condition and locks up tightly.

The thing that confuses me is the date of production vs. the the dash series of the model. The serial number is J77015 which would indicate the revolver was manufactured between 1969 to 1970. According to the Engineering and Production Changes the Model 36 revolvers built during this period should be a Model 36-1. The yoke of the revolver simply shows MOD 36 with no dash. The serial number is on the butt of the grip. Did they not mark the dash number on the yoke for this model or is there another explanation?

The 36-1 has a 3" heavy barrel and was produced in parallel with the 36-0

OK, so mine with the 2" barrel is still considered a 36 (no dash). Thank you for the clarification.

Default MOD 36 chief special

I just acquired a 1.875" barrel stamped MOD 36 on the yoke, serial number 627XXX. 3 screw plate also engraved in spanish marcas registradas along with the usual markings on the right side of the frame. From what I have read my revolver was manufactured some time from '61 to '69. Can anyone help me pin point a little more accurate date. Much appreciated.
