Model 10 Value. Circa 1973. 4 inch.
Haven't seen it yet but the original owner says it's in perfect condition and has very little use. He has original box, original grip/stocks, no tools. Any ballpark value input is appreciated. Also, I'm in S. California. Thanks, c good

Lots of people will say $400 ballpark. Around here that is a $500 gun, and usually tagged higher.

That phrase contradicts itself and suggests ignorance of standard gun condition terms. Don't be surprised when you look at it if it's not so "perfect." Supposing it's in excellent condition or about a 97-98% revolver then $450 to $475 is about retail. I suspect that to arrive at $500 plus Peak53 read "perfect condition" as New In Box which it cant be if it's been used, meaning fired.

If the bluing looks to be 100%, that gun, with original box and grips, would be in the $500 to $600 range in the St. Louis market. With significant wear though the price of a Model 10 drops fast -- there's just too many of them.

I wouldn't go more than $500 unless it was in some kind of special kind of great shape.

$500 gun if original grips and truely perfect condition and original box. LGS has one similar to what OP described $499.99.

I've been shopping hard for a decent 10 or 64 to use in our NRA Basic Pistol class. Because it will be used by students and fired about 1000 times a year, I want a shooter and have no use for NIB with box and papers. So far I've only researched on line, but in "perfect" condition with box and papers, I agree with the $500 estimate.
As K22fan implies, estimates of "perfect" condition may vary greatly. Sellers are often optimistic if not just lying.

Yes, sellers do tend to exaggerate. Just examine it. If it looks perfect, then in my mind, it is. It can still be perfect even if it has been fired a little. It all depends on how it is handled and maintained.
But do you really want to pay a "perfect" price? If you just plan to shoot it, carry it, keep it in a bed stand drawer, maybe you would be better off buying one of lower quality, but still in good working condition.

I was in an LGS yesterday and noted a Model 10 in the case for $595.00. It seems S&W revolver prices are going through the roof lately. So, if you see one you like at a "reasonable" price it's best to scoop it up!

You are all quoting prices from OUTSIDE California. The laws in that...state...can you tell I left out some words?...prohibit dealers from selling this gun or importing it into the state. Therefore any gun not approved for sale but is in private hands already in the state commands a huge premium. I'm guessing (as any value estimate is) but if I were in CA with this gun I would ask at least $800 for it...maybe $1,000.

I looked at a 10 Sun at the gun show. No box or papers, rubber grips. Tapered barrel. Looked pretty darn good. Asking on it was $355, FWIW. Bob
