I think it's been a few years, but there was a thread on making your own, as these things cost $50.00. If anyone has this info, I would greatly appreciate it. I can load 7 into my moon clips by hand, but the last one is just too hard.

Have you ever tried RIMZ poly moon clips? Easy load & unload. I use them with my 625JM. I do have metal ones also. Bob

That 9+ minutes could have been cut down to less than 2 with no loss of information... Unless you really need to know about his cut finger, etc.

Another comment:
You could probably get a round piece of hardwood for the handle and just drill a hole in the center. Or look for something appropriate made of wood in any big hardware store.

Also, you could buy or make a little crank that would work better than his fancy milled aluminum handle.

Pony up for a BMT mooner -- it's well worth the cost, loads and unloads for you in a flick of the wrist. Going by hand is the best way to ruin a clip.

BMT mooners are well worth the money, my 12 year old granddaughter can de-moon and load 12 stars in a matter of minutes. Family time together ( priceless)

Hay, I also built my own. It works ok it was fun to build. But the right tool for the right job kicks in motion. Good luck

I tried making one from that video a few months back when I got back into Moon Clip revolvers. ( 625pc, 627pc and 929pc). I'm an engineer by trade and pretty handy so thought it would be a breeze. The reality is that the it's doable but harder than it looks unless you stumble into the right combinations of dimensions for ALL the parts. First, the distance from the center of the hole for the bolt has to be measured and drilled precisely (within the tolerance of the thickness of a matchbook cover) or the rounds bind as they try to feed into the clip. Second, the clip has to be shimmed off the flat surface by the thickness of the case rim. Finding a washer that is the right thickness and diameter so it doesn't interfere with the case getting fully seated into the clip isn't easy. I went through three before getting something that worked. I also stripped out the first plastic knob I purchased.
Bottom line: $15+ in parts, 3 trips to the store and 2 prototypes later, I had something that worked (marginally). It also only worked with certain sized and shaped clips. In the end, it all got tossed in the junk heap.
In hindsight, I should have just bought one of these right off the bat and been done with it.

I am using a pair of needle nose pliers.....already have so no need to buy anything.

To load my 327, I insert a 7/16 deep socket into the center of the clip and hold the ends as I push down on the case, while it lays on the bench. To unload, I pry the cases out near the rim with a smaller slotted screwdriver. I'm carful to push straight down and pry straight up to avoid bending the clip.

I agree with Dave I made one but by the time you figure in time plus materials just bite the bullet (pun intended) just buy one already made !

Grower has the right idea. A pair of needle nose pliers is faster and works just a well.

I do give credit for the innovation. Good idea and follow up to it.

I bought a BMT tool. Good investment.

One of the better tools and by switching the optional "stud", you can load either 45 or 9mm.

I do recall seeing a home made tool along similar lines as this a couple years ago on the Forum. Do some searches.

Built mine from an old steel shaft golf club. Works great...
