Default Model 36 info request

I am looking at a model 36 2" at a LGS that looks to be never fired. No cylinder turn mark, no evidence I can see. Not that it really matters because I will attempt to wear it out if I buy it. I have a model 60 .38spc that I want to turn over to my daughter, so am looking at this as a replacement for my EDC.

It is a pinned barrel. There is no dash next to the 36 on the box or the yoke. There is original sales receipt that shows it was purchased in 1981.

My question is, when did they start actually marking the dash changes on the gun and box? Is there anything significant about a no dash 36 around that year as far as value up or down?

I can have this gun for $525 out the door. I don't mind paying that for new condition.

ALSO, it is a little confusing where to post between the 2 revolver sections pre 1980 and 1981 to present if you have a pinned barrel 1981 gun <:

Nothing unusual about a 36 no dash. S&W made them from 1967 through to 1988 (though there are minor differences along the way). The 36-1 (1967) was a 3" heavy barrel model. The 36-2 (1988) changed the yoke retention system on the snubbie. Though the pinned barrel was dropped in 1982, it was not a big enough change to justify a new "dash."

Cool then I guess this must be the last of the pinned barrel 36. It does not have recessed cylinder though.

Only the .357 Magnum models were recessed (they feared a case "blow-out" that never happened).

Hello TeamRoper, every well dressed daughter deserves a Mod-60 to complete her ensemble.Glad to hear you plan on carrying and shooting your new Mod-36. I have one right here on the bench in my shop, another in the truck and a Mod-38 in my pocket. Best and good hunting.

It's a fair price for a NIB model 36. I think a pinned barrel puts it in the 1961-1980 section but many guns (the 580/680 series) started in 1980 without that feature.

Please post photos .
