27-2 3 1/2" Pawn Shop find. Opinion's
Found this at a pawn shop for $600. I think I did alright. Has some dings in the bluing, no safe queen. I was thinking of selling or trading but Im feeling that I should keep it. Its tight and right shoots great. Serial# dates 79-80. Someone has smoothed the trigger. Seems like these go for a lot of money out on the web. What's the going value on a piece like this?

You did good. Keep it and enjoy it. I have one in 3.5 inch and paid $600 OTD for it. I enjoy mine a lot. Mine has target grips on it.

Luke Duke,
As the southern saying goes "you done good". At the price you paid, there may well be a an outstanding warrant for theft. LOL. Keep your sanity and banish the thoughts of selling her. If you have never experienced "sellers remorse", I can tell you it ain't pretty. Dry heaves, shakes, cold chills, headaches, etc. Best regards, hardcase60

Opinion: Well, given your description of the gun and as you understand their current value and desirability, you did very well and may have scored a very nice revolver for maybe $200 less than the current prices that they are selling for..... Would we all be so lucky!
I vote for keeping it IF it is something that you care to keep, value and shoot. If you decide to sell, you will see a profit. I agree with hardcase60 about a near Theft on this price. Very nice.... Did I say "would we all be all so lucky" with a find like yours....

You did well on the purchase. Tough to find those with the 3 1/2" barrel. Gun looks nice, and you don't have to worry about shooting it...

If you bought it to have you did well. If you bought it to flip I don't think there's a whole lot of meat left on the bone. Could probably turn some profit but not sure if enough to justify too much effort.
Don't let the ATF hear you are buying guns to resell. May constitute "being engaged in the business."

One in that shape would easily pull 750 in my area. Nice find!

I am currently looking for a shooter grade of this variant; and the price you paid is less than i am willing to pay...so you did good.
You got the premier S&W .357 for $ 600.00. Heck, at that price, I might just engrave it, put some stags or ivory on it, and enjoy shooting it at the range or carrying on the farm here.

That is actually a darn great price on a 3 1/2" 27-2 in the shape it looks to be in your pictures. They routinely go for 1 1/2 to 2 times what you paid for it on GB all the time.

It's possible it is aftermarket, but I do believe the factory also sold smooth faced triggers too. At least at Numrich they show a listing for a .312 wide and a .400 wide smooth trigger.

"has anyone ever seen a smooth trigger like that? must be after market."
I'd say that a previous owner smoothed the trigger with a Dremel tool. A factory smooth trigger would show case hardening on it's face.

If whoever had it did a lot of double action shooting, it isn't unusual to have the serrations ground off. It makes double action shooting a lot more comfortable and smoother.

I would have expected to pay at least $ 850 for that gun . I would probably have gone even higher than that if I was in just the right mood . Seriously.
You got a good deal in my book.

I had to double check the date…I thought I may have been reading a five year old post when I saw what you paid. I would have paid that much 5 years ago, so you got it at the 2011 price!

In my neck of the woods, that is close to a $1000 gun.
Don't sell it, you got a great deal. It is meant to be yours.

That's a gun that will attract the immediate attention of everyone who reads this revolver forum. A 27-2 with 3.5 inch barrel is just something we don't see very often, especially for $600. You will never find that gun again in similar condition at that price.

It looks a lot like the gun was loaded when you were taking the pics.
It looks like it may also have been pointing at you, or not in a preferred direction.
Unintentional discharges are no fun, even if no one gets hurt

A fine looking piece, but I thought the same thing loaded and pointed toward the camera...........seems risky to me.

Polishing off the grooves is sometimes done. A wider, smooth trigger was also available as an option or as a replacement part. I bought an N frame with the wider, smooth trigger years ago and liked it. Years ago I mentioned this on the forum and somebody emailed me saying he had a bag of those triggers he would sell me for $50. I think there like seven of them in the bag. Such a deal! I put them on some of my 357s and 27s. A few are pictured below.
BTW- Only one 27-2 didn't work well with a replacement trigger. All the others felt fine with a new trigger swapped in.

I was wondering when someone was going to say something about that. I agree even for on pic not a great idea. Ive been shooting since I was 10 ; should now better. Not real worried about blowing my head off with one pic, though. My guns don't discharge unless I'm discharging them.

I didn't notice that the gun was loaded.

I wouldn't do it unless you are enamored with the 41 cal. The 27 is is far cooler

Depending on the m57 barrel length, that might be a good trade dollar wise. If you aren't a .41mag fan, then not so much.
