Model 19-3 Info needed
I am wanting help identifying the year this pistol was manufactured as well as a possible value. Here is the gun information:
Smith & Wesson Model 19-3 .357 Magnum
4" Blued barrel
Serial number 9K78996
Adjustable sights
The gun was completed re-blued before I purchased it.
Thanks for any information.

The value depends largely on condition.
The finish does not appear to be bluing, but a spray on coating of some kind...pehaps Cerakote or baking laquer. Not sure of the type of finish on the hammer, trigger, cylinder, screws and thumbpiece. Perhaps plating or a different color bake on product.
Looks like there may be some gaps in the finish around the sideplate border, which may indicate overpolishing, improper polishing or prep work on the frame and sideplate. The grips also appear to have been refinished at some point. Along with the general/overall mechanical condition, these are issues that will affect the value.

Thanks again for all the info. I did not even think about that being a different coating. I will contact the guy that did the work and find out what type of coating was used.

Looks like some pitting and some heavy buffing on the R-side plate before the Cerakote.....(19-3 still P&Red).......turns a $600 gun into a IMO a $250-300 Truck gun.
Hope you didn't get hurt/taken on the purchase.

Tu-tone Cerakote for sure. Concur with Bam-Bam on the finishing/pitting issues or a bad paint job. On what she worth in today's market is anybody's guess. IMHO, definitely reduced the value although we don't have any before pictures. She may have already been a truck gun. FF without incurring any additional cost and after a through going over, I might go $400.00. I said might...........hardcase60

It was re-something'd,but not reblued.
Grips that fit that poorly are not original.
I had the same exact gun, except a year older. It didn't look like that.

I wouldn't.
I'm downsizing, but if I wasn't,I would rather snatch the very nice 66-2 snub at my LGS this a.m. for 700.They are friends,so I told them that it was underpriced by a hundred or two.

O/P, are you the buyer or seller? If you are the buyer, unless you have a need for a kick around revolver, I'd keep looking for something that has been less modified.
If you are the seller don't expect a great price for it.
Best of luck whatever you do.

If I was in the market for a knock-around truck gun, and didn't already have several, assuming that the revolver is mechanically sound, I would give $400 OTD for that revolver. As BAM-BAM said, it is a P&R S&W revolver.
