40 year old beater......
Does the heart good when you stumble up
on a near complete package ANIB old Smith.
Hard to tell if it's been fired outside the factory.
1976 vintage Model 28-2.

That is some beater you have there. Are you going to shoot it, or let it languish in that box for another 40 years?

I have a good shooter...4" N frames
are nutz right now.
Reckon I will leave it be.
Package like this would likely do well
on GB.

Seriously? Obviously not!! OR your definition of a beater is significantly different than mine. Either way it's not a good idea to have anything that cosmetically challenged around your other S&W's. Therefore, as a fellow Texan and willing to help, PM me and I will provide her a new forever home. Seriously, she is a great find........... Best regards, hardcase60

Your thread title describes exactly what I'm looking for, not what you have.
Nevertheless, congratulations. That is a wonderful find.

Congrats on finding a really nice 28-2....they don't come along in that nice of shape often.
But I'm actually disappointed. When I saw the title to this thread I was hoping to see a nice well-used but cared-for model 28. I love blued revolvers that show they have been used but are well maintained. To me those are the real gems to find....just my opinion.
I guess one gets spoiled by seeing all the really nice safe queens shown here by all the "real" collectors on this forum.
If you think about it ...one doesn't see the "shooters" and "beaters" on here or the auction sites that often. But to me those are the ones that pique my interest the most.
I apologize for rambling on about "shooters & beaters" on this thread, because that really is a great find the OP made and one that any of us would be proud to have.
To the OP....thanks for sharing.
Don

Simply fantastic. Nice to see that there are still some really nice unused, LNIB or NIB, revolvers and autos for sale out there. Does the heart and mind some good! Nice buy. I'm envious.

What a great "beater" you have there !!
This is "Bernie's beater"......First year mfg Highway Patrolman. No qualms about shooting this one ! I have no Idea who Bernie was or why he had friends at Cengas......A retirement present from co-workers is my guess. My other guess is it came out of Wyoming (lots of natural gas). I picked it up at a Denver show

Nice find. It's sure getting harder to come across good ones like that.
