once again a price check
A LGS has a 29-2, nickle, 8&3/8 barrel that I believe is unfired. Papers, wood box- interior isnt pristine, tools. They are asking 1,000 dollars, will also probably have to pay tax. In todays market is this a fair price? thanks for your input .

Sounds like a mid-range dealer/retail price. If you want it, do a little cash talking to the dealer. I know, I was a shop owner for many years. A cash
discussion all ways got my attention. If it is a fair offer, and the dealer is in the business of selling, it might fly.

Like Mike says, it's probably negotiable, but even if it's not, it seems fair. You can have the interior of the box redone.

Compare the quality and price of a 29-2 to a 29-10 (or whatever the new production is) and re-evaluate, sir. Plus it has the wooden presentation case.

A possibly unfired M29-2 for $1,000 ? With a presentation case & tools?
That is an excellent deal. Never hurts to try to get a lower price, but be sure not to offer an insultingly low price or you may get kicked out of the store.
The drawbacks for me are
1) I don't much like nickel
2) It has the least popular barrel length
On the plus side, the long barrel should make it easier to shoot accurately while getting maximum performance from the .44 Magnum cartridge.
If you like it, don't leave without it.

I agree with Jack .. I think that's a pretty darn good price. Unfired, box, tools, I think its a great deal, go in and offer 900.00 .. Nothing to lose, maybe they meet you in the middle at 950.00.
I say " Grab It " !!
