Default Shiny Things Nickel Model 18-3

At the recent Big E Gun show in Springfield, MA, Don Mundell found me an interesting Smith & Wesson!!! It is a Model 18-3 4" barrel in Nickel. It was new in the box with a factory letter. The letter states it was shipped on October 17, 1979 and delivered to Stephen H. Lysik at Smith & Wesson shipping room, Springfield MA. The records show it was shipped with a 4" barrel, red ramp front sight and Nickel finish. This was a special employee order. It also has a white outline rear sight. Smooth "Book End" grips as indicated by the box label. I will try to post pictures. I wonder how many Model 18's were done in Nickel? You just never know what you will find at a show!!! Thanks Don!!!!

Congrats. I've always read that model 17s are rare in nickel so I guess model 18s are to. In fact, I don't remember seeing one.
Thanks for showing it.

Nice find........FYI all 18s were 4" (6" guns were 17s).

Nickel is not my cup of tea..... but that's a nice find with a $50+ Factory Letter???

I like it! I also don't know if I have ever seen one that lettered on this forum before! BTW, the grips are superb!

First one I've seen. Nice find.
Personally not a nickel collector.

Spectacular find!

The only other factory nickeled 18s that I know of were in the very recent Classic series with locks, MIM parts etc.

There have been posts over the years with people proclaiming to have a nickel or stainless model 18 that later turned out to be aftermarket finished, mostly hard chromed. The OP's 18 is like a unicorn. It is nice to know that a real one actually exists.

Great find and a beautiful revolver Ernie! I'm also a lover of nickel Smith revolvers. I think they look great and I find that nickel holds up better than a blue finish too, IMO.

The big question is this: Are you going to shoot that beauty?

Wow,

Oh how I would have loved to be a S&W employee and ordered a couple of "unicorns" myself!

Best wishes,
