Welcome to the Forum !
I do not think you are being ignored. As I am sure you are aware the clamshell cases are not very common and present special problems with their styrofoam liner. I also have a couple that need reflocking but have been leary because most of the spray adhesives used in the flocking kits contain solvents that dissolve the styrofoam.
I would like to hear from any member who has tackled the clamshell restoration.
Jerry

I spoke via email with member Joe Cebull. He sent me a pic of a 4" he reflocked that has styrofoam in the bottom portion. I'm awaiting his response for an address in order to ship my clam shell. I'll address the question concerning the solvent that causes the styrofoam to dissolve at that time. Thx for the heads up!

From what I understand, the old flocking must be completely removed from the foam. Then, the foam is covered with something such as latex house paint which will adhere to the foam & provide a barrier between the foam and spray-on adhesive. After that, they are re-flocked the same way as the standard polysteryne liners. The flocking materials used should be synthetic and not cellulose based because the cellulose will attract & hold moisture.

William Carte:
I don't think the clamshell cases are flocked; I think the styrofoam is painted in some manner. It certainly is a different finish than the later cases which are flocked.

With over an hour of labor and a single edge razor blade to remove the material perhaps you correct! Although, I did notice it appeared to be glued down (on the reverse side) as I seperated it from the stryo foam!?!

One last observation: I did notice what appeared to be blue, spray paint on the sides of the styro foam, hence your theory of a base paint is most likely correct.

Hey fella's
This is a reflocked styro bottom. Everyone is correct, the adhesive will eat the styro. I do not remove the old flocking, it helps to seal the styro! The clam shell cases were flocking, some of the others were covered with a thin piece of blue foam rubber.
This cases was covered with the foam rubber. I recover these with cloth!

Is there a member up here that redoes these presentation boxes. I have one for a Model 29-2 6 inch barrel that needs a new hinge and internal flocking and exterior refinished. If there is send me an email with the details so I can work out getting this one redone.

clamshell flock removal
I've discovered for styrofoam Easy Off oven cleaner will strip off flocking & leave the foam very clean. Spray & leave for a min of 1/2 hour & rinse with warm water at the sink. The flock just slides off & it doesn't harm the Styrofoam. Be sure to first test a little on the back side to be sure. Worked like a charm for me.
PS be sure to use easy off as I found the bargain no smell type usless
