Default Question about a S&W model 10-8

Hello, I am new to the fourms here and I have a question about a Smith & Wesson I have.

I trying to find out the age of my S&W model 10-8 in .38 Spl. serial number AVP5403, I was "told" at the gun shop that it was a police trade in. It does have a little wear on the barrell from hoster wear but other wise is in excellent shape.

Any help would be appreciated.

All the experts must be asleep...I'll tell you what many will say..."Post photos!" I'm sure someone will respond later on today to your information request. Welcome to the Forum from an old night shift worker!

Welcome! It likely shipped in the summer of 1987. No way to tell 100% if it is an ex-LEO gun; many were stamped with property markings but not all, and a factory historical letter may not show it shipped to a department.

Thanks for the info, and here are a few photo's of my model 10.

I only have a small collection of Smith & Wesson Revolvers and Pistols but the Model 10 is a fine shooter and I love it.

Looks nice! Many LEO guns are pretty holster worn, if yours was one it had lots of TLC. It also has factory RB Target stocks, a nice upgrade. Enjoy!

The heavy-barreled M10 is a great shooter and fills the home defense role nicely as well.

Welcome to the forum from SW Ohio. A very nice looking round butt model 10. It should be a pleasure to shoot. Now we need a range report.
