Default 28’s are nothing but pure sexy .......

I just joined the 28 club with a beautiful example from 1973. This 28-2 came with the box (nice condition) but grips that were not original. So, to me, this screams “add some Culina combats and shoot the hell out of it”!

These N frames, while large and heavy, just exude power and grace. No, I won’t put it in my pocket, but I will bring it out to show off non stop! Here it is in its low light, sexy, Christmas photo opp .....

As much as I like my 4” model 28, I must disagree with the Sexy look. To me the model 28 is a no nonsense revolver that makes the statement Don’t Fuss with me, I'm for real.

Now if a revolver can be considered sexy, it would be the 2 ½” model 19. Six rounds of OMG in a smaller package that feels like a real gun in your hand.

If an artillary piece can be called sexy, I suppose so. They are huge! Now K frames are a whole different matter.

Here's a nice family shot of my pre-28 and 28-2 surrounding my nickel 4" 27-2:

I see no reason to correct the grip situation. The square butt combats are very nice. Congratulations!

I really love them all, especially the blue ones, although I admit my stainless and nickel guns are quite attractive. Personally, for looks, I prefer the 4" models, K, L, or N, but that doesn't detract from any others insofar as sexiness is concerned. They're all just gorgeous. My first S&W was a 4" Model 19. When I showed it to my then 70 year old mother, who never touched a gun in her life, she remarked, "That's very beautiful", or words to that effect. I was elated. That whole family of guns still give me the very same feeling.

Nothing like a nice Model 28. I picked up a older S serial number in 4" a few months back, a great workhorse of a gun. Love shooting it. Had a 6" awhile back and went to the shorter barrel.

Great Workhorse of a Gun !!

Hey OB, I’m thinking “sexy” is in the eye of the beholder!

And also, I have quite a few Smith revolvers that I think are damn sexy. I just happened to be “fondling” the new to me 28 when I took those pics and made the post.

Edit: Oh boy, I’m not gonna get dinged for using sexy and fondling in the same post am I?

I would have liked your post if it wasn't for those grips.

Edit. For all the other folks that have shown either magnas or targets. My thumb is up.

I do totally understand this - folks seem to either love or hate the combats. I happen to love these and have them on several other guns.

My 4" 28-2 was a plain-featured piece of iron that faithfully brought me home at the end of watch to my wife, who was - and is - sexy.

Myself I prefer magna's on my 28-2 w/ 4" barrel . My 6" wears s&w target grips . Yes , I shoot full magnum loads in my 4" as well . Those fancy grips with the finger grooves do nothing for me . But -- to each his own . Regards, Paul

... I like them as well:

Details of one of my favorites that has seen a few rodeos (which makes a Model 28 even more attractive)...

My 28-2 came to me as an abused rescue. Poor thing is so finish challenged she's camera shy. But, now I'm her custodian and I love her. The action is smooth as silk, locks up tight and although the sex appeal maybe gone she still has a lot of spunk. Even with some acne scars once she had a nice bath, lovingly polished by hand with some Flitz (there was no bluing to worry about), then gently waxed, the beauty of patina was a sight for these sore eyes. Racehorses are pretty and every once in while run fast, work horses get the job done everyday. Of course all this is IMHO! regards, hardcase60

I propose that you should be considered an Official 'Old S&W Guy' if you can recall when M28's/HP's were on the shelf at the LGS and still considered 'econo-guns'.
I do, and will always remember my first, a 6" that I attempted to torture with youthful, stoopid ++P++ handloads. Never a problem. (thank goodness)

Wish that there'd been a 5" option, and while wishing, a 628 would have been great!

Picked up about a year ago at a good price. They seem to be getting higher every day. I remember when they would lay on a dealer's shelf for months at $150 with no takers. That's my problem - I remember too far back, makes today's prices seem exhorbitant. Ha.

I say it often in these threads, but I think the N frame is the ultimate S&W revolver. With magnas and a t grip, they just feel absolutely perfect in my hand.

I have to agree. The N-frame has been a favorite of mine for years. There is something about the look and feel of an N-frame that draws me to it. This is my 1964 model 28-2 wearing it’s original diamond magnas.

Agree with the N Frame, but my vote is for the Model 58....

Actually, about 6 years ago I had a collection of 27-2's and 29-2"s and I sold them and this was the one N frame I kept. The 28-2 is exactly the same mechanically as the 27-2 it's just the fancy high luster blue and checkered steel top strap that make them different.
