29-2 I'm in love with nickel...
I found what i would rate a 90% 29-2 nickel finish 6 inch revolver. Slight turn line, carbon on the front of the cylinder, but I don't care. Has Pachmeyers installed, but the original grips are coming with the gun.
Seller wants $1050.00 To me this seems to be a nice price. Any opinions?
And another question...Why are grips such a hot item? A co-worker has already offered a nice amount for the original grips. I won't sell them because if I get the 29 I'm putting them back on. Just curious.
I'm probably going to pick it up tonight. So I'll post obligatory pictures.

Price sounds good to me but I am rebound for paying too much for a gun I like lol. Some folks like to have the grips that are correct factory that came with a certain gun if the grips are hard to find may be the reason for a good offer but you are doing the right thing keeping your package together. When you get it you will enjoy I'm sure and let us know how it shoots.

LOL, thanks for the reply, and I am the same way. I walked in looking for a Scorpion Evo carbine. The guy at the counter knows my interests and while i'm walking around pulls out the 29. I looked like a cartoon character with my neck stretching out.
So we worked out a deal, and he's holding it while I think about it.

I have a 629-1 that I bought used in 89 it still had a half box of the ammo the guy bought with the gun ,i have hunted many years tripped over a lot of stumps and roots and enjoyed many a day with that revolver .go ahead and get it you won't have buyers remorse on that one. But I warn you the 44 magnum is addictive if you don't own own one already.

Why would you rate 90%? Is it solely on the turn line and cylinder face? If so, and if the lock-up is tight, then go for it! I've the same 44 and other than wiping the cylinder face with CLP I don't mind the carbon either.
I wouldn't give over $900 for a shooter. But it's easy for me to draw that line as I already have an excellent condition 29-2.

Sounds like a fair price for that sweet model 29 to me. I also like Smith's nickel finish too and I wouldn't mind picking up a nice nickel 29 this year myself. As to the original stocks, I prefer aftermarket models such as the ones Kim Ahrend or John Culina sells over the original targets as they fit my hand better. Since your gun sounds like it's a really nice shooter grade gun, you might think about selling the factory targets and getting yourself some nice Ahrends or Culina stocks if the factory targets are a bit too big for your hands.

Do the stocks/grips happen to have a diamond around the screw hole ?
Could be he's not offering enough.

Gave it 90% because it wasn't new and the turn line. It locks up very tightly. Reminds me of a new one. I'm jumping on it. I'll kick myself if I let this one get away.

Good choice, that sounds reasonable for one in that condition.

I looked long and hard to find a 6" 29-2. Color me different but I prefer the 6" barrel to the 6.5", but I wanted P&R. Finally found one a few years ago at Tulsa.
Congrats on the nickel -2. I'm afraid if I ran across one of those with a 6" I'd have to get my wallet out. Look forward to pics.

I know I may be stupid, but if the gun is one that I want, in a condition I want and it is nickel, then I'm takin' it home.

I sure hope I didn't snatch it up if you were planning to buy it. I'm glad to have found it, but I never like buying something another person intended to purchase.

I wasn't planning on that one. I was looking at a 17-4 and 48-4 both 8 3/8 barrels. They are both still there as far as I know.

I’m a firm believer that you should always keep the original stocks with the gun, but not necessarily on it. I like Pacs or Altamonts for the nicer ergonomics. When and if you ever sell it, the price difference between a pistol with original versus one with aftermarket grips will be more than the price you could get for the grips selling them separately. Particularly true if numbered to the gun. I just picked up a set of round to square conversion N frame Altamonts for my 610, planning to retire the round combats to keep them in good condition since I shoot it a lot. The round combats are just too pricey to get dinged up at the range.

I love the nickel guns myself. Mine is a 8 3/8" barrel, but I love the long barrel ones. I paid about $850 for mine, and know that a 6" barrel is more desirable. I think the price you are looking at is pretty much in line.
