Default Local Gun Show

I can never figure out how to get to the lounge section, so I guess I'll just leave this right here.

I just went to a local gun show, and it is held only twice a year. I wish I was about to rant about a new gun I bought, but unfortunately all I had on me was the 6 bucks to get in. I like going to gun shows because I like finding old school revolvers so I can hold them and get a feel for them to help me decide what I want to get next. Well this was the show let me tell ya. I saw so many old revolvers it made my head spin! Now mind you, all of these guns were in mint condition by the way. I saw a nickel Model 15 snub, a nickel Model 10 snub with a square butt, a nickel Model 19 snub, an incredible snub Model 686 from the 80's that was polished so nicely it looked like it was nickel, a snub round but Model 64, a blued 3 inch model 36 RB, a snub SB Model 37, a 4 inch Model 681, a blued 4 inch Model 581, a nickel RB snub Model 12, 3 or 4 snub Model 49's 2 or 3 were blued and at least one was nickel, 2 3rd issue detective specials, one nickel and one blued, a second issue detective special in 32 long colt, a 4 inch blued Diamondback, various model 36's, mostly blued, probably all blued, a 3 inch blued SB Model 36-1 (heavy barrel), a bunch of long barrel Smiths, bit I'm not a fan of anything over a 4 inch barrel, so I didn't pay attention to those, but at least 10-15 of them, 3 or 4 Model 27's 3 blued and one nickel couple 4 inch and a couple 3 1/2 inch, a 6 inch Model 629 older model, several Model 66's some pinned and recessed and some not all snubs, probably 4 model 19's in 4 inch 3 blued and one nickel, a 4 inch Model 629 older model, a 3 1/2 inch Model 28 4 inch Model 66 and not to mention the two big display cases of engraved Pythons, Chief's Specials, Model 19's and who knows what all. I'm not a huge fan of engraved guns, so I didn't pay as close attention to those, all had real pearl or real ivory grips too. It was insane!!! I have never seen so many beautiful old guns and ALL OF THEM were in mint, pristine condition!!!!! And me with nothing but some lint in my pocket. I was so captivated by these guns! The ones I really wanted the most were the snub 686 with magna grips (those were the stock grips too by the way and if you've ever heard me ranting on here before you'd know I'm in love with magna grips!) with a beautifully polished finish, the Model 10 nickel SB snub, the Model 15 nickel snub, the Model 12 nickel RB snub and the Model 19 nickel snub. Those were my "I wish I had money" guns. That 696 is exactly what I want in a snub K/L frame gun. I love the nickel look but still having stainless properties, and I love the magna grips on it. I've only seen one picture of one that came that way, I couldn't stop looking at it. I plan on going to the next one with a pocket full of money and leaving with at least one, hopefully two. He had all the same guns I liked at the last show last summer with a bunch of new ones so hopefully it'll be there. I don't think he owns a shop (hopefully not!) so maybe I'll luck out. Makes the new ones very unattractive to me, though I did get to see some new 686+ snubs and they aren't bad, but I want that old one to show off. Never have I been to a gun show with THAT many great guns! I have a snub blued Model 15, so that nickel one would be a nice companion piece, but it had the target hammer and trigger. Not that I find anything wrong with that, but it will make it different from the one I have in that aspect. I just can't get over all these guns! I had to tell someone!

One consolation to not getting a new gun though, I got home and my fake pearl grips had arrived for my nickel 36!!

I cannot stand when I post a picture on here and it rotates the picture. It looks like I rotated both pictures to the left one time and then posted them. Am I the only one with this problem??? It's driving me nuts. Look at my profile picture, same problem. I thought I had it figured out so I rotated the picture and then used it so it would line up right. Nope, it rotated it the other way so I gave up.

It is a beautiful revolver even in the rotated pictures. Looks so much better than pictures of rotated lint from the bottom of your pockets after paying admission to the gun show.

Thanks for the report - where do you live that there were so many nice guns?

BTW - it sure makes it easier for an old guy to read when you use paragraphs. I am not and never have been an English teacher, just sayin...

I don't carry credit cards for that reason. I would owe a TON of money. Yes it would be nice to have but I'm trying to think a little more logically the older I get.

I figured that was coming haha, it was in Porter County Indiana. That is one county east of Lake County and Lake County is the very northwest corner of Indiana, part of Chicagoland. If you've ever heard of Gary Indiana, that's in Lake County. I have to say though before you make any plans for a trip, it usually is nothing like that. There is usually one guy with a few nice guns, but that's the first time in the last 3 shows that it was like that. The next one is in September. Don't grab my Model 15 or 686 haha, we'll have to have a duel!!

Lucky you, the gun shows I go to there are about 30 Tupperware auto specials for every revolver.

To be honest very few revolvers are in the shows, and many of them are single actions. (Not that there is anything wrong with single actions) Very few if any DA revolvers are new! I did see one Pre 34 Kit Gun that the dealer was selling on consignment, he wanted close to $5,000 for it!

There was no price on the gun in the glass case and when he told me the amount I said do not even bother opening the case.

I live in the northwest corner of Indiana in Lake County, show was in the next county east in Porter County. Sorry about the massive paragraph, I get to ranting and don't pay much attention, plus the box I write in is only so big so I can't see the whole thing at once.

I also saw a blued snub Model 40, a Model 16 and a Model 60 snub RB. This doesn't usually happen, in fact usually at this show it has one guy with a few good ones and the ones he's engraved that are like 5 grand a piece with real pearl or ivory grips. The Lake County show once every 2 months or so is terrible. There is usually only a couple nice old Smiths or Colts at the entire show. Although I did get my mint Model 15-3 snub there so there's always that. Usually there's not much to be found. That's why I didn't take money with me to this show because there usually isn't much to be found around here.

That's usually how it goes around here, I lucked out. Even though I wish I could've walked out with a couple handfuls of them, I still enjoy going because I get to see these things in person, hold them, check them out and it helps me decide which ones I like and which ones I don't so I get an idea what I'm looking for and which one I want next. I love seeing these things. Most of the ones I thought I would like, I do. However, there have been a couple that I thought I would like and did not, so I'm glad I know in case I buy one online I'll know
