Pawn shop rescue 15-3
Making my pawn shop rounds this morning and saw this 15-3 in the case. Priced at $300+ tax. Couldn’t pass it up. I’ve now got the grips with the first coat of Tung oil. Gun is pretty pristine with a faint turn line but otherwise like new. Don’t see many 2” M15’s. Never own a M15 before. I have a couple of 38 masterpieces in 6”. Best I can tell from the SCSW is 1977. SN is 12K08XX.

What a deal! I've been looking for the right deal on one of those for awhile. Don't think I'll find one like that. Congratulations!

Yes, great buy at $300. I bought a two inch in that condition for a little less. . . . . .but that was about 15 years ago. Nice gun.

Some folks don't like to report what they paid and others consider it rude to ask.
This thread would have been rather common had you kept the price to yourself, but you didn't and that makes this a jewel.
What a smoking deal, good for you!!

Beautiful little revolver - that's a Jesse James purchase. Were you wearing your mask at the time you purchased it?

Yep! I would'a broken my own rule and borrowed $ on a credit card for that gun at $300! Then when regret started creeping in (and it would) I'd squash it back down by fondling that beautiful 15!

Great purchase! IMO, model 15's are the BEST deal in high quality vintage revolvers out there. If Warren Buffett was really smart, he'd be buying up model 15's! Congrats on your new vintage revolver.

I saw a snubby model 15 priced at $1050 at Cabelas yesterday. Did a double take and walked away. If it had been $300 I'd have pulled my wallet out so fast my pants would still be smoking.

I agree. It is not rude to ask a paid price if you post your buying experience. You paid a true “rescue” price at a pawn shop, rather then some guys that will pay twice value just because it is there... (you can’t buy them all). It’s not like you told everybody your wife’s age... (which of course is a secret...)

I really wish I could tell you how envious of that deal I am--a snubby version of my very favorite revolver, for a price bordering on larceny.

That’s the only thing good about all the plastic semi autos. So many youngsters thing they need to be tactical. Leaves a lot good wood and blue revolvers for us wheel gun lovers.

Congratulations go out to you on that 1! I have wanted a 2", 15 for quite a while. The closest I could come is a 10-5, RB 2". Great little gun. Bob

I agree (with both points). What better place could there be than this forum to share the prices we pay? Staying current with values is critical so we can know what is a great deal (like this one), or what is about right, or what is "I wanted it!"
When I over pay I "shift" some of the overage onto something else that was a good deal, just so I don't feel like an idiot when I look at my gun list. I call it Wellsian Economics .

Robert is spot on: This site for gun prices and other sites for boxes and accessory prices (eBay). You may not remember the exact prices for them but when you see one in the display case, you will at least know whether it is a bargain or not. I had not really looked at M15’s in the past but Had seen a lot of 4” models priced at $450-600. I knew the snubby would demand a premium so I jumped on it. I have learned over the years “when you see a bargain, buy it. It won’t be there when you get back”

I like those because I remember reading about how, back when law enforcement only carried revolvers, a factory rep/salesman would use a Model 15 snub to show how accurate a snubbie could be, like at 100 yards! Although that one's too nice to shoot, for me anyway.
This is what we have in lil' shops around here:
Original price $299 OBO, changed to $689.
No one jumped on it fast enough, I guess. Maybe the shop owner finally decided to look it up online.

In 2012 I found a 2" 15-4 as the lone revolver in the case of a LGS that specializes in "tactical weapons". I asked the owner about the gun and was advised a retired police officer traded in his old back up revolver for a Glock. The shop owner had a $300 tag on it and we settled on $265 out the door. Like yours, I consider this one of mine fairly pristine and it came with a Tyler-T adapter and nice holster. This was my second Model 15; the first being a 4" 15-3 (my very first S&W) purchased a year earlier.
Both are accurate and I really enjoy taking them to the range. In my hand the 2" shoots groups as close as the 4" on the self defense range. The original magnas are stored away and currently the gun has faux pearl magnas with the black Tyler adapter. Looks great. This is one of those treasured Smiths that will be a forever keeper. The serial 75K5678 dates to 1980 I believe.
I hope you enjoy yours as much as I have mine.
