It appears that you have a mixmatched K panel with a N panel.

Posting a pic of insides will help confirm

Only when one panel is for a K frame and the other for an N frame!

Agreed. I have seen mismatched grips that don't align well in one location or another, but one of your panels appears significantly larger than the other. I have attached a photo of the internal differences between K (on the right) and N frame grip panels.

The strangest thing is that the larger grip on the left side, is actually too small at the rear. I can see about 1/16" of the frame exposed.

It's that exact location where N frame grips can be trimmed to fit a K frame grip frame. So I agree the left grip is N frame that likely someone over trimmed.

Reminds me of seeing one of my kids wearing mismatched socks. I always say "I bet you have another pair just like that!" Always gets an eye roll and a grin they try to hide...

If they will not fit your N frame, then I guess that would seem to indicate they are a mismatched pair of K frames. Dimensional differences in target grips during the long production run of that style of grips do seem to exist, and I have seen mismatched grips that were pretty mismatched as to size. I just don't know how extreme the variances would be if one could compare random samples of such grips produced over the decades. How about a photo of the inside of the panels to include the washers?
