Model 29-3 a good deal?
A friend has for sale a nickel 4" Model 29-3, .44 magnum, serial number AUH6820. It has target stocks, hammer and trigger. It's been a safe queen for at least 15 years and doesn't show much use. No box or papers. I have 2 questions:
1. When was this revolver manufactured? and
2. Is his asking price of $700 a good deal?
Thanks for any information.....

Today, that's a very good deal on a Model 29-3, nickel plated, four inch barrel.

I sold one (8 3/8" Nickel) 29-2 last summer for $800. I think that's a good price (like the others).

Hi, make sure that is factory nickel. There should be a N stamped on the back of the cylinder. 1 on the frame under the stocks. I would gladly pay that price myself if original. I have a 6" -3 blue that I paid $700 a couple of years ago. Been very happy with it. Bob

Std. Catalog says build date 86-87.
I usually use 1990 as a general cut off date on most models. Just can't bring myself to buy anything built after that. YMMV.

I think you need to extend that up to around 1995 or so, before they started MIM. Because you are excluding some very nice guns there, especially in 44 Mag. The 29-6 Classic I have is an excellent shooting gun and well built and has forged internals with all the endurance package enhancements.

You better get it. It was made around 1980ish. The nickel ones were more rare, do to Smith started making the 629 at the same time (1979-80ish). And most went that direction instead of the nickel gun.

Agreed.It's a "I'll take it" scenario.
And a friend's price should be the cost. Not his asking price, but one simply paid without the awkward dance of dickering.
