Back in the mid 1970's I purchased two S&W model 64-1's in .357 caliber. I used one as a duty weapon and sold the second to my brother-in-law. I'm retired now and want to find out something about the pistol. It has a recessed cylinder like a model 19. The barrel is stamped .357 magnum. I was told the model 64 was only chambered to .38 special. My serial number is DN01H03. Smith & Wesson can find no information on the pistol. Any information would be helpful!

I've talked with several people and they cannot find any information on my serial number. I'll have to get with my nephew to get the serial number off the second pistol.

It is because what you stated in Post #1 is not the serial number. I suspect you found those letters and numbers in the yoke area. Look on the butt of the grip frame. The number you want is there. It will start with a D, but that will be the only letter.

You guys are correct and I have egg on my face. I keep a list of serial numbers on every gun I own as well as cameras. I recorded the serial number from a medium format twin lens Mamiya camera for the serial number on the gun. The correct serial number on my Model 64 is D673041.I spend a lot of time in Facebook jail also.
