Default Not so special Chief Special

The far less touted Chief Special model 36 no dash 3inch barrel. Still nice!

Every Chiefs Special is "special."

That's a beauty.

I especially appreciate the 3" models.

Care to share the s/n for my database?

I picked up a 3" HB in the box and an older slim barrel. I had one, way back in the day, but must have wanted something else more. They are great shooters.

Special or not, someone recently paid over $700 for a 1977 36-1 3" Nickel on GB... after 40 bids no less. That will help anyone feel more appreciated,

Bob If you are keeping data my nickel 36 3inch is J173213 and my blue 36-1 3 inch is J970318. Enjoy.

Thanks for sharing the info.

My list of Chiefs is growing by leaps and bounds thanks to folks' willingness to share. The list is approaching 2,000 Chiefs Specials, Airweights, and Models 36, 37, 50, 60 and most "dash" variants (not including 36-4 & 36-5) from 1950 through 2001.

The number seems small compared to the hundreds of thousands of Chiefs S&W has made since 1950, but it has allowed me to document many seemingly minor variations that don't appear in print. Using my own collection and the database info I've been writing the Chiefs history to show the evolution of the models. I hope to share my findings here within the next year or so.
