People have lost their everloving minds!

If it cost nothing to list, a lot of people will put a gun up for crazy money.
Hey, it’s better than a lottery ticket. Higher chance of some pilgrim buying than winning lotto. This or some degree of this is driving gun prices.
I see it everyday. Guns at 80% condition listed same as 95%. The page on condition don’t count anymore. It’s not the sellers fault. It takes buyers to jack the market. It’s not uncommon to see utility model guns that are more less inexpensive and never were desirable, tagged 10x actual worth and that is a 60% gun.
PT Barnum said, or maybe it was W.C. - said there is a sucker born every minute.

I have had luck with Gunbroker. Best example was a 6" 25-9 I wanted. One was for sale with blurry awful pictures. I emailed seller and asked for better photos. They showed up and the revolver was about perfect. I was the only one bidding on it but I never hit the reserve, and this went through three auction cycles. Seller contacted me and made me a very good offer which I took, which was much less than reserve. Great revolver.

:

I've bought a few items on eBay that featured poor pictures, yet when the item arrived it looked better than what I could tell from the pictures. Some people either have really poor cameras and/or poor photography skills. Blurry pics do make me pause and wonder if it's a case of poor photography skills or skillful intention poor photography.

Did It Really Sell?

With the seller allowing a 3 day, non-firing inspection period, this one may go back when the buyer does a little more research and figures out that the RR front sight, magnaporting, boogered up grips and rust feckling render this gun worth a lot less than his winning bid. Even if he does consummate the deal he's in for a rude awakening if he tries to sell in the near future. It will sober up one over-enthusiastic buyer. He likely hasn't priced .357 mag ammunition either.

I have used Gunbroker with great success when it comes to scoring some good deals, and I got the short end of the stick when 1 seller falsely described his item. But the biggest bummer of the whole process came at the hands of the good ol' USPS when they lost a model 17 that I won at a ridiculous low price. I'm sure the carrier had a fun time of explaining to the ATF why he left a signature required package on the porch an empty building.

RCL, I’ve seen the items constantly for sale at inflated buy now prices as well. A couple times I’ve contacted seller to ask if they’d consider an offer since it’s not selling. The answer is always we do not end auctions early lmao……. I did just get lucky today on GB. Yesterday I bid on an 18” Mossberg 500 barrel and bailed out at $130. It sold for $135. Today I bid on identical barrel from same buyer and won it for $105. Guess you just gotta be persistent. Looks likes there’s sellers on there now flipping the model 64s that Guns. com sold last month.

I believe in the American system and capitalism. The fair market price is what ever the product and market will support. I wouldn't pay $200 for a superbowl ticket yet many pay thousands of $. And have nothing to show for it the next day but a memory.

I like to see and examine guns before I buy them.
Have had pretty good luck using Jason’s.
Bought 624, Beretta 21a, sold Rem 700, traded for Beretta 70s among others.
And traded a Camera for a 649! Yes!
New State rule requiring FFL transfer on all sales puts a crimp on Gun dealing at McDonalds !

This M19-3 sold on gunbroker yesterday for $675. Seller very plainly stated it had a cracked forcing cone. 😳 seems like a lot for a very used, but pretty, parts gun. I know I would not of paid that much.

Cracked and very eroded forcing cone plus significant imprinting in the recoil shield. That's one heavily used/abused Model 19, but likely salvageable. Worth $675? Considering the cost of replacing the barrel and possibly correcting end shake, I think someone had too much money and not enough knowledge or perhaps has a replacement barrel and can do the work on their own.

Unfortunately, there are alot of folks out there that really "believe" that if they got this fantastic revolver/pistol/rifle/shotgun, etc. that by osmosis they will become that great shooter like Jeff Cooper. Once they realize after shooting it -- that it will take a lot of time, practice and ammo (which is getting more expensive each day), then reality sets in--and they realize that they don't have the "desire" any more -- then they want to "get rid" of it as quickly as possible -- hence, the huge influx at obscene prices ....

Interestingly purchased by a new buyer with no feedback.

It seems that a lot of the exorbitant prices are coming from low to no feedback buyers

I have done well on GB and this forum. I walk away when the bidding goes crazy, there is always another one. What really surprised me are people who sing the praises for GI and GA.I was on GA a few days ago and prices are ridiculous.I feel most comfortable dealing here.

Much like GB and other auction sites, I never discount them.

It's the same with one particular LGS. In most all cases their prices seem to be retail + 20% on new items and on used, most are so ridiculous it's laughable.

But I still stop buy every now and then and have picked up some really good deals, most recently a stainless Taurus 431 for $350 out the door. When .38spl was $80, when you could find it, they sold some st $25.00.

A few years ago I paid $600 for a LNIB 1973 4” Model 66, the last gun I’ve purchased in quite awhile.

The title of this thread did make me chuckle. My mom always uses the phrase "everloving minds". Not sure I have heard anyone else use that.

Not real sure what an "everloving" mind is anyway...:D
