Good Evening All;

I just purchased a 14-4 from a friends father. It is good shape, but some time in the 1980's, he cut the barrel to 3 1/4". I called S&W and and found that they don't make replacement barrels for the 14. I would imagine old barrels are rare. Does anyone cut barrels to factory sizes / tapers or would other models fit the the 14 (like a model 15) with some work?

Thanks!

The best choice of course, is to locate a proper M14 barrel. Failing that, an M15 or M67 barrel will fit no problem. The only difference between the M14 and M15/M67 barrels besides length, is the standard taper on one, and the heavy barrel taper on the other.

If desparate, you can also fit up a barrel from an M19, M66, or M68. But those barrels are even harder to find, and will require shortening the barrel shank and the extractor rod w/center pin to fit.

If really desparate, you can fit a barrel from an M10, M12, M13, M64, or M65 to your frame, but those all need higher front sights to shoot correctly.

If you're not dead set on a factory barrel, another option is www.clarkcustomguns.com

They've been working on Smiths for 40+ years.

All;

Thanks for the suggestions. I will keep looking for a factory barrel for now.

Cheers!
