19-4 4” Nickel Value

IMO, in the condition I'm seeing in the pictures, about $700 in my area.

Welcome! I agree with Model19man...$1000+ these days. I have a minty nickel 19-4 2-1/2" (ca. 1978) that is in about the same price range. I'm thinking that the snubbies and 4" bbl. versions are worth about the same.

When it comes to vintage S&W revolvers, I'm definitely a P&R fan. Right or wrong, I tend to believe that P&R revolvers are manufactured with a little more attention than later versions of the same revolvers. It may just be the earlier dates of manufacture reflect the skills and dedication of the S&W workforce at the time. Or it could be the change in corporate philosophy to reduce production costs (which sometimes affects quality control) by eliminating the unnecessary pinned barrels and recessed cylinders. Who knows for sure? With that said, I don't believe that there would be much of a price difference (if any) between a minty nickel 19-4 snubby and a minty nickel 19-5 snubby. They are both beautiful vintage revolvers. Only someone like me with OCD might differentiate between the two.

No offense intended, but, unless the photos are poor, the finish non the OPs gun looks a little less than perfect. I think it's a $700 gun. To get to $1000, that nickel needs to be shiny.

As to Retired W4's question, a 2-3/4" nickel 19-5 is probably a $1000 gun, Maybe a buck or two more.

Not sure if these pics are any better. I do still have the factory grips.

Model 19

Just picked up a 2.5" Model 19 nickel. Ended up paying $980.

Not sure about the longer barrel 19's but the snubs are running
between $950 and $1050 on the ones I have been tracking.
here are a few from my collection,

Looking at the new pictures and the originals, I'm seeing a lot of small scratches and handling marks. Also some finish wear on the original stocks. In this condition, I stand by my original $700 assessment.
