I acquired a S&W “Highway Patrol” .357 Model 28-2 that is nickel plated. Serial: N181XXX. It has a 4” barrel and my question is the Nickel finish. It appears to be Original with the sides and cylinder being polished and the top edge from the front sight, all the way past the hammer to the bottom of the grip and including the trigger gaurd edges are Satin finished. I’m just not seeing any Nickel Highway Patrol models online. All blued finished. There’s not an “N” stamp behind the lug, other than the “N” in the serial number and there’s no “N” stamped behind the grips on the handle frame either. I read where there was a few that were plated and sent to Florida with 6” barrels. Does anyone have some information on this piece. I’m no expert on gun finishes by any means, so take that “appears to be Original”comment with a grain of salt! I’ll attempt to send a couple pics. Had trouble the last time I attempted.

I hear that S&W made a single run of nickle plated ones around 1961 for either Florida or Georgia highway patrol. Never seen one in person, they command a premium because they are rare.

Pictures of yours would help.

Mr. Nox, how about a little back history on your purchase. Who did you get it from and price. Pics have to come. Are the hammer, trigger and ext. star blued or nickel?

I submitted some pics. New to this. I uploaded the attachments and submitted it under the reply box where the attachments were.

Thanks Mr. Nox. Very prompt with your response. No argument, that is a nickel finish, but whos? Only a check or letter from Mr. Jinks will verify the factory finish. I tell ya, the trademark and barrel stamp look soft. But gun is not in hand. Inconclusive at this point whether its factory or after market.

You did OK with buying that 28-2. $500 for any S&W N-frame revolver is a real deal these days. I have to agree...it's not an original S&W nickel finish. But it is a decent re-nickel job, and the revolver should be fun to shoot. Sounds like you got a great deal on a nice Colt Grizzly, too. Enjoy!
