Local friend called said he had a 10-5 that needed a home. Was sub 200.00 hard to say no. Anyway thought I would share. Maybe send back back to S&W for a refinish? D serial. Had some packmyers on it.

Looks pretty good to me, as is. And for less than $200, looks like an absolute gem.

I would clean it up real good, pull the side plate and check the internals, stick the Pachs back on it and put it in my truck. I bet it shoots just fine. Good deal you got.

+1. I'd give it a once-over with some 0000 steel wool and light oil to get the rust and crud off, maybe replace the grips with something smaller, stick it in a holster, and proceed.

There's probably nothing wrong with it that a few hundred rounds down the barrel wouldn't fix.

Reminds me of my Model 19-3. A little rusty, a little pitted (back strap so pitted that it looks like it has been stippled), scratched, worn, generally looks like it was maintained very little and carried every day. But the bore and chambers were spotless and it shoots great.

I' be more inclined to use Big 45 Frontier Metal Cleaner. Looks
just like steel wool, removes the rust but will not remove what's left of the bluing.

Been using it for many years, no problems. The last time I bought it was from Amazon. $7.00

What HP said. I've used it for years. I even keep a small piece of it by the kitchen sink for use on pots and pans.

If you wish to clean up the finish use BRONZE WOOL and oil. Bronze is softer and won't scratch your finish further. My 10 was $329 a few years back, not a beauty queen but functions great. Bob

I'd flush it with Gunscrubber, put a drop or two of oil here and there and let it soak in and work in as I dry fired it. Then give it a gentle rubdown with Flitz and an old T-shirt (Actually I've got a pack of brand new T-shirts I was too lazy to send back when I ordered the wrong size by mistake, I use for this now. I figured they'd make good gun rags. They do.). Maybe Flitz it twice in this case. Then I'd give it a few coats of Ren Wax. Keep the PacK's on it. You were in high cotton back in the day if you had Packs on a gun.

I'd have sure paid $200 for it and I don't particularly care for snubs, but I could have overlooked that in this case.

Enjoy it!

If someone calls me with a snub K frame for under $200 , that’s a yes without even seeing it. In fact I’d probably hang up thinking it was a prank call.

That’s a working gun and has earned every blemish. I think it looks beautiful because of how it appears. Business like and tough as nails!

Ditto.
Soak it in ATF/Acetone 50/50 mix for a few days to flush and gunk out of anywhere it may have accumulated, give it a rubdown with bronze wool & oil. Then lube it up a little, and shoot the snot out of it.

A nice score, I'd snap that up at $200 without even blinking.
