Is my Model 57's standard trigger original?
According to the Standard Catalog M57s came with a target hammer and target trigger. My no-dash M57 has a target hammer, but a standard trigger. Is it possible it came from the factory this way, or did someone do a trigger swap somewhere down the line?

As far as I know they were all 3T guns so I would expect the trigger was changed out at some point. What are the "dimples" on the side of the trigger? Somewhat looks like the marks left from a trigger shoe. Easy change though if you want to put in a target trigger. I bought a 4 inch 29-2 not too long ago that someone had decided needed a smooth trigger rather than grooved, it happens. Looks like a nice one.

It is always possible for someone at the Factory to grab the wrong part during assembly
Over the years I have had two revolvers that I sent back to be corrected
It is also possible that a previous owner head the original trigger swapped out for a narrow one
If it is not to your liking you can always have your favorite local gunsmith change it out for a wider trigger
While I own Many Model 57s i only have three 4" model 57s. A Mountain Gun, Standard hHeavy barrel and a Factory engraved
This one is my favorite

I suppose it's also possible the gun was special ordered with the .265" trigger.
That one has marks on the side of the trigger that look like set screw marks from a trigger shoe.

I wish I'd gotten the factory Target stocks with my 6" M57. Had a set of black-ish Altamonts on it when I got it. Didn't like the color but like Altamonts as replacements (don't care so much if they get scratched/worn) so I put a different style of rosewood Altamont stocks on it.
That engraved one is gorgeous

It left the factory with average looking checkered stocks
This revolver deserved better than that
Culina made these for me from French Cake Walnut

A prior owner had trouble making up his mind.
Order or install a narrow trigger... then put on a trigger shoe.
Or maybe it was the first and second owners.

They're very, very nice. Here are the ones that came on my engraved 57, not bad but I like your Colina's better. Not sure if these were the factory originals.

Sometimes there's no telling with S&W! Here's my nickel 4" Model 57 (ND) from 1980...target hammer but standard trigger. The case hardening on the hammer and trigger are a close match, so I suspect they are original to the revolver.
