Dallas Police 66-2 Engraving, Is it Factory?
Hello friends. Please take a look at the engraving on this Dallas Police Department model 66-2 trade-in and let me know if you think this engraving was done by Smith & Wesson, or by the police department. Thank you for your help!

The holder of badge #3063 had that done. Not a DPD gun and unlikely it was done by S&W. The frame engraving is very crude. It would be worth passing on for that reason; hard to sell.

Haven't seen any Dallas PD duty revolvers to say what they had on them but that was done for #3063 with the initials SSL.
Don't know what the date means but that's a 1986+ barrel so maybe it's the date they were sworn and given to them when they retired?
Doesn't look to have a red ramp front sight?
Here's a couple of the sideplates from the commemorative 66-2.

Is that a gemstone in the middle of the star?

Someone liked Millett Sights too. I kind of like the engraving but it is definitely not factory quality.

#3063 should have been hired in about 1971; not sure what the 1972 date signifies. The Model 66 DPD Commemoratives were delivered in 1981, I think.

Maybe SSL had it engraved after successful completion of their probationary period? Just a theory.

That's not a gemstone, just the way it was engraved.

front sight
The front sight has a glow-in-the-dark insert!

Very interesting. Thank you. I see what you mean about the frame engraving. The side-plate looks much nicer.
