It's kind of funny how tastes change. I've always been a big fan of blued revolvers, and for years that's all that I collected. Then one day about 10 years ago I came across a nickel revolver at a local gun show. It was a 4" .44 HE 3rd Model (W&K Model of 1926) ca. 1927, with a letter from Mr. Jinx, and it spoke to me. The front sight had been modified back in the day and the revolver had been re-nickeled, but it was a cool piece of history. A couple of months later my local gun store let me know that they had a nice nickel .38 Spl. M&P (ca. 1949) with MOP stocks for sale...cheap. It came home with me. They were later joined by a minty Model 19-4 snubby (1978), a nickel 6" Model 29-2 (1980), and a sweet nickel 4" Model 57 (1980). Will there be more nickel S&W revolvers added to my modest collection? Perhaps!

Had five...down to only two (for now)
Had 5 but sold the 10-5 (1977), the 27-2 (1980) and the 36-1 (1982)...........have a Model 10-no dash with 5" barrel (1959) and a Model 10-6 with 4" HB (1973).
I'm basically more of an "accumulator" than collector, so I buy whatever strikes my fancy whenever the stars align and I have money in the pocket and one stares me in the face, be it nickel or blue.
With S&W it's always a no brainer and I hate to see both a nickel and a blue at some local estate sale when I don't have enough cash on me

Like the nickel. Before stainless became popular, nickel was considered to be a tougher finish than bluing. Our department carried nickel Model 10s forever until transitioning to Glocks. I carried a 10-7 in the 1970s like the one I have now. Looked sharp in our black leather duty gear. The good old days with real leather duty gear and smith revolvers. 10-7 from 1979.

Can I Play Too?
My very first venture into collecting back in the '70s was focused on nickel Smiths. When reality and economics hit home in the early '80s, and I had to part with my fledgling collection, I had a 6" M27 , a 4" M19, a 4" M34, and a M39, all in bright nickel finish. They had all been purchased new and subsequently shot, but resold in excellent condition with box, docs, and tools. I missed those guns something terrible.
Fast forward a couple decades, and financial things were looking brighter, enough so that I could start buying again. Over about 10 years I had the opportunity to compile a nice, modest collection of interesting firearms, primarily S&Ws and primarily revolvers. During that time it struck me more than once that people just didn't seem to be parting with nickel guns in quantities proportionate to their original manufacture. Maybe my imagination, or perhaps people just love the way they look? No way to say for sure, I guess. Anyway, here are the nickel guns I've brought home.
My big Ns, a 6-1/2" M29-2, posing with an 8-3/8" M57 in it's presentation case.
IMG_5253.jpg
A bobbed 1-7/8" M36.
IMG_5113.jpg
A 5" .38 Military & Police Model of 1905 4th Change.
IMG_5076.jpg
And the Top-Breaks: A 3-1/4" .38 Safety Hammerless 3rd Model, a 6-1/2" New Model Number 3 .44 Russian, and a 3-1/2" .32 Double Action 4th Model.
IMG_5269.jpg
And a final thought on nickel guns. Not long ago I initiated a thread here called Regrets, essentially about the guns we've owned and let go, and of course there were a number of replies about the guns we could have bought but didn't. Of all the guns I passed on that trouble my sleep, there was a 2"nickel M15 Combat Masterpiece. It came in to the shop where I worked along with a couple other Smiths. Finances were such that I could only buy one right away, and after some vacillating, I went with blued 2" SB post-war M&P. I love that gun and don't regret the purchase at all, but if I had it to do over again, I'd figure out a way to get that nickel M15.

I only recall having one of that description, and I bought it right here in our For Sale forum...Sadly I was slick-talked out of it by someone who kept piling up green paper until, in a weak moment, I said OK...There's still a place in my heart (and my safe) if it should wander into my view again... ...Ben

Nice $.15 worth of revolvers.
I've only got a dime's worth, always preferred blue, but not above grabbing a nice nickel gun when I saw one I liked enough.
M29-2 and M25-5:

I have more than a few nickels
The satin nickel 442 is a great gun that was made for far too short of a time
Probably my favorite nickel is my McGivern Special

Found the Model 58 photo.

Factory Satin nickel Model 28. According to SCOSW, a few (5) made with Satin nickel finish, reportedly as a sales sample for Adolph Blaick Inc.

Some beautiful examples here.
Here are the 4 I have. First is my 29-2, second is a 34-1, third is a 37 and forth is a 1920 M&P 38 special. All are factory nickel and in beautiful shape.
I certainly like a beautifully blued gun and love the ease of cleanup with stainless but nickel is special.
