Last month RKmesa shared photos here of a very nicely engraved 66-1 with the initials GN (or perhaps CN) which presumably are the initials of the engraver.

I recently acquired a P&R 629 with the same initials in about the same place as on the 66-1. This one has some differences from the 66-1 in that the engraving on the side plate has covered the logo and on the left side the engraving extends under the thumb piece, first time I've seen that I think.

There must be more out there by GN (CN) and it would be great to know more about the engraver and see more of his/her pieces if anyone has one.

In that issue on page 17 an article "FEGA, From the Beginning'
talks about the first meeting of the group in 1980, and a list of the 20 people/engravers that attended.
The first name on that list is Gary Nelson.

I've not heard of his name before. I know or know of everyone else on the list except for 2 others.

I would contact the FEGA. They have a Historian. See if they have any info on him at all.
Any pics of his work. Perhaps he is still working and can ID,, or say it is not his work.
It is certainly nice engraving.

I didn't see anyone listed on the FEGA site as a Pro or Master rated engraver with initials that could be a possibility.
But they have had many members over the yrs. They come and the go
