Model 26 (Pre 26) Long Colt
I have a Pre Model 26 Long Colt s/n: S161959. In my letter, Don states it as a Model 26 but it is not model marked. It was shipped 6/13/1962. Of course the frame was built significantly earlier. It was shipped to HH Harris.
There were 3 of these on the invoice I have. It would really be fun to find the other two. The serial numbers are S161436 and S161956.
Thanks,
Trey

Stunning! If the mothership would go back to making them like this, I’d empty my retirement savings!

I would find it hard to say no to a .45 LC S&W. That's a nice one for sure.

Your revolver is a 1950 45 Target or a Pre-Model 26. Don identified it as a Model 26 because that is what is listed on the invoice. The designation of Model 26 is an accounting function only. S&W began listing model numbers on their invoices in early 1958, so even if a particular gun was made much earlier, it would still be identified on the invoice with the model number.
S&W built 200 of these revolvers chambered in 45 Colt in 1953. Yours is one of three built for H. H. Harris much later.
