The only pics I have handy are those of my 97 year old Model of 1905 4th change Target with its amputated barrel and unknown vintage stags, and one of my 4" Models of 1950 .44 Targets wearing some of Bigmtnman's Bullwinkle masterpieces......Ben

All the Smiths are by our own Ken Driskill. The Ruger is by Sack Peterson.

I like the combination of blue steel, stag and grip adapters.

Here is my newest, a Model 1950, 45 ACP, Target revolver, paired up with a second Model 1950, 45 ACP Target revolver.

Here are a couple of Model 25-2s.

I have several more.

Here is an old Model 1917 with an equally old set of Sambar service stocks and a funny looking grip adapter.

I love that look. I found these Stags sitting in one of my local Pawn Shops. They were a bit pricey, but they were made right. The last pair I had were kind of wonky.

Does it count if the "stag" is moose and the steel is scratched?

Here's a Baby Chiefs wearing some period sambar stags.
I find that old sambar takes on a beautiful color with age and a bit of use.

Default Clarification of "Stag" vs "Antler"

I'm hoping that some of you Forum gurus will educate me on the proper use of the term "stag" when referring to stocks/grips. As I understand it, stag refers to any 4-legged male animal with antlers (family Cervidae), e.g. stag, various species of deer, moose, elk, caribou, and reindeer. Going to cocktail parties as a single male doesn't count! Back in the day, when someone referred to stag stocks, they almost always meant beautiful Sambar stag antlers from India. I have been corrected here on the Forum a couple of times for referring to my handgun stocks as elk stag stocks instead of elk antler stocks. But it seems to me that stag includes antlers from any type of deer, elk, caribou, reindeer, or moose, and perhaps ram's horns (although most horns are permanent and antlers are shed annually). Let's forget about horn, bone, and jigged bone stocks and stay focused on stag and antler. What's the popular consensus?

Some great examples of guns and grips. Gives a different meaning to stag party.

I agree with your definition. However, I tend to be specific when I mention the material, smooth elk, smooth caribou etc.

I didn’t buy them from him, but I bought them from who he buys his from. I liked them so much that I bought 2 pairs. I sold the other pair for an handsome profit. Unfortunately, it has been quite a while and I can’t remember who made them.:

Another peek at some caribou. These were crafted by our very own Ken who is a true master of the craft.

Indeed he is!...Due to my own poor foresight, my only pair of Ken-crafted caribous (donated by Rudolph himself I'm told) escaped my zoo while fastened to a 1955 Chiefs Special I owned at the time...I'm sure they are still in custody of the young lady who convinced her husband that she must own the gun that shared her birthyear......Ben

Another little guy, a baby Chiefs Special with a smooth ramp front sight sporting some stag grips.....
(This one comes with a special wink and nod to Two-Bit Cowboy.)
